Role Overview: Senior Mainframe Developer

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mainframe Developer with a minimum of 7 years of experience to support and enhance mission-critical enterprise applications in Alpharetta, GA. This role is vital for maintaining the high performance and reliability of financial and business processes that rely on robust mainframe systems. As a local-to-Georgia candidate, you will work onsite to design, code, test, and implement essential changes to our core infrastructure, ensuring that our legacy systems continue to meet the demands of a modern digital economy. The successful candidate will be a technical expert capable of navigating complex legacy codebases while integrating modern development practices to ensure long-term system viability.

Technical Expertise and Mandatory Skills

  • Core Languages: Expert-level proficiency in COBOL, JCL, and CICS is required for the development and maintenance of high-volume enterprise applications.
  • Database Management: Extensive experience with DB2, including the development of Stored Procedures and complex SQL queries, as well as VSAM data management and optimization.
  • Development Tools: Mastery of essential mainframe tools such as CA7 for job scheduling, Endevor or Changeman for version control, and File-Aid and XPEDITER for debugging and data manipulation.
  • Methodology: A strong understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and experience working within Agile/Scrum frameworks to deliver high-quality software increments in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Mainframe Developer will be responsible for the full lifecycle of application development. This includes analyzing complex business requirements, designing technical solutions that integrate with existing mainframe architectures, and performing rigorous unit and integration testing to ensure system stability. You will be tasked with optimizing code for performance, troubleshooting complex production issues, and ensuring that all changes comply with organizational security and quality standards. Additionally, you will participate in code reviews, provide technical guidance to team members, and contribute to the documentation of system processes and application logic. Your role is critical in ensuring that the mainframe environment remains secure, efficient, and capable of supporting the company’s evolving business needs.

Strategic Impact and Collaboration

In this role, you will collaborate closely with business analysts, system architects, and other developers to ensure that mainframe solutions align with broader business goals. Your expertise will be critical in modernizing legacy processes and ensuring that the mainframe environment remains a reliable foundation for the company’s operations. The ability to mentor junior developers and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the Agile team is highly valued. You will also work with cross-functional teams to facilitate data exchange between mainframe systems and distributed platforms, ensuring data consistency across the enterprise. Your contributions will directly impact the reliability of financial transactions and business-critical reporting.

Special Requirements

This position is strictly for candidates currently residing in Georgia. The role requires a consistent onsite presence at our Alpharetta facility to facilitate close collaboration with the local team and immediate response to critical system needs. Candidates must demonstrate a strong track record of stability in previous roles and a deep commitment to maintaining the integrity of enterprise mainframe systems.

Compensation & Location

Salary: $130,000 – $170,000 per year (Estimated)
