Position Summary
We are looking for a seasoned Mainframe IMS System Programmer to join our enterprise infrastructure team in Plano, TX. This onsite role is critical for the installation, configuration, and maintenance of IBM IMS (Information Management System) environments on the z/OS platform. The successful candidate will ensure the stability, performance, and high availability of IMS subsystems that support our core business applications. With a 12-month initial contract and potential for extension or conversion to hire, this role offers a long-term opportunity to work on mission-critical mainframe systems.
Core Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and customize IMS DB and TM subsystems, ensuring alignment with z/OS, DB2, and CICS environments.
- Manage RECON datasets and Database Recovery Control (DBRC) to maintain data integrity and facilitate efficient recovery processes.
- Perform system upgrades and apply maintenance patches (APAR/PTF) using SMP/E.
- Execute GEN processes, including ACBGEN, PSBGEN, and DBDGEN, to support application development and database administration.
- Monitor IMS performance using tools like OMEGAMON or Mainview, and perform capacity planning to support system growth.
- Provide Level 3 technical support for complex IMS incidents, diagnosing issues related to logs (OLDS/SLDS), buffer pools, and connectivity.
- Develop and maintain automation scripts using REXX, CLIST, and JCL to improve operational efficiency.
- Support modernization efforts, including IMS Connect, ODBM, and JDBC integration for API enablement.
Technical Qualifications
- At least 7 years of experience as a Mainframe System Programmer with a focus on IMS.
- Expertise in IMS installation, subsystem maintenance, and DBRC operations.
- Strong proficiency in z/OS, JCL, VSAM, and SMP/E.
- Experience with IMS utilities such as DFSURGU0, DFSURWF0, and HALDB.
- Knowledge of mainframe connectivity solutions like IMS Connect and z/OS Connect EE.
- Familiarity with disaster recovery planning and execution for mainframe environments.
Work Environment and Culture
This position is located onsite in Plano, TX, within a high-performance enterprise environment. You will collaborate with DBAs, developers, and storage management teams to deliver robust infrastructure solutions. As a senior member of the team, you will also be expected to mentor junior system programmers and contribute to the continuous improvement of our mainframe operations. The role requires a disciplined approach to change management and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of system availability and security.

Compensation & Location
Salary: $85 – $120 per year (Estimated)
