Role Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Mainframe iSeries Cobol Lead Developer to join our enterprise technology team in Schaumburg, Illinois. This is a critical onsite leadership position requiring a deep technical background in legacy systems and mid-range computing. As a Lead Developer, you will be responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle of complex applications, from initial requirement analysis to final deployment and optimization. This role demands a professional who can balance high-level architectural thinking with hands-on coding excellence.
Technical Requirements
- Minimum of 10+ years of hands-on coding experience specifically in COBOL AS400 and/or Cobol ILE environments.
- Expert-level proficiency with iSeries, AS400 (Mid-Range), and ILE architectures.
- Advanced knowledge of COBOL/400, CLLE, and SQL for mid-range systems.
- Strong exposure to DB2400 database management and optimization.
- Proven experience working with ACMS/MOM for change management and operations.
- Ability to analyze and translate complex functional requirements into robust technical specifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development team in an onshore/offshore model, ensuring high-quality delivery and adherence to timelines.
- Act as a technical mentor, guiding junior and mid-level developers through complex coding challenges.
- Partner with business and capability teams to refine requirements and propose innovative technical solutions.
- Identify and implement opportunities for application fine-tuning and performance optimization.
- Actively participate in the Agile/Scrum development process, including daily stand-ups and sprint planning.
- Contribute to the long-term technology roadmap, ensuring the sustainability and scalability of the mainframe environment.
- Coordinate directly with clients for requirement clarification and solution discussions.

Compensation & Location
Salary: $145,000 – $185,000 per year (Estimated)
