Job Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Mainframe MQ Engineer to join our team remotely. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience in IBM MQ support, with a strong focus on z/OS environments. This role involves the creation and maintenance of Queue Managers (QMGRs) and related objects, ensuring the smooth operation of messaging systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert support for IBM MQ on z/OS, including creating and maintaining QMGRs and objects (queues, channels, etc.).
  • Hands-on experience with MQ on z/OS is essential.
  • Experience with MQ on IBMi is preferred.
  • Experience with MQ and MQIPT on Distributed platforms is preferred.
  • Understand how applications interact with MQ through APIs.
  • Application development experience is a plus.
  • Mainframe Operations experience is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of containers and IBM CP4I is preferred.
  • Proficiency in z/OS, ISPF, JCL, SDSF, JES, PDSE, VSAM, and related utilities.
  • Understanding of and experience with SMP/E, DB2, CICS, IMS, Network/TCPIP, and MF Automations (OPS/MVS) as they relate to MQ.
  • Implement and manage MQ Monitoring solutions for real-time and historical analysis of status, troubleshooting, tuning, and trending.
  • Utilize MQ dashboarding tools such as Prometheus/Grafana, Ironstream/Splunk.
  • Experience with IBM SMF data for statistical analysis.
  • Manage change, incident, problem, request, configuration item, event, and on-call processes.
  • Oversee MQ PLM, upgrades, maintenance, testing, implementations, and integrations.
  • Experience with Queue Sharing Groups (QSGs), Coupling Facilities (CFs), Coupling Facility Structures (CFStructs), Shared Message Data Sets (SMDS), SCM (flash memory), and shared queueing.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in IBM MQ support.
  • Strong experience with MQ on z/OS.
  • Familiarity with other MQ platforms (IBMi, Distributed) is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of application integration and APIs.
  • Proficiency in mainframe operating systems and utilities.
  • Experience with monitoring and dashboarding tools.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities.

Compensation & Location

Salary: $100,000 – $140,000 per year (Estimated)
