Role Overview: Mainframe QA Lead (Onsite – New Jersey)
Scalable Systems is looking for a seasoned Mainframe QA Lead to spearhead a critical mainframe rehost transformation project. This onsite role in New Jersey requires a strategic thinker with over a decade of experience in legacy systems and modern cloud migration strategies. You will be the primary authority on quality assurance for a complex migration from System Z environments to Linux-based cloud platforms, ensuring that mission-critical workloads maintain parity and performance throughout the transition.
Strategic QA Leadership & Planning
- Strategy Development: Define the comprehensive test strategy, scope, and approach for the mainframe rehost transformation, identifying critical testing needs across applications, interfaces, and batch jobs.
- Resource Management: Estimate resource requirements, timelines, and testing efforts, ensuring the QA team is properly equipped to handle the migration’s technical challenges.
- Stakeholder Management: Coordinate with development, migration, and platform teams to align testing phases with project milestones and resolve high-priority defects.
Technical Expertise & Migration Validation
- Mainframe Mastery: Deep hands-on experience with System Z, VSAM, Enterprise COBOL, JCL, DB2, and CICS Administration is essential for validating legacy logic.
- Rehost Migration: Validate the correct functioning of rehosted workloads on target platforms (Linux/Cloud). This includes JCL conversion validation and scheduler migration testing (CA 7, Control M, AutoSys).
- Data Integrity: Lead data migration QA efforts, creating strategies for file-based and database migrations. Ensure data completeness, accuracy, and referential integrity during RDBMS/Cloud Datastore transitions.
- Parallel Run Testing: Oversee parallel run testing to compare mainframe outputs against rehost results, ensuring 100% output parity for COBOL, PLI, and Assembler workloads.
Automation and Tooling
- Framework Implementation: Utilize and enhance automation frameworks using Selenium, Python, and custom scripting to increase testing efficiency.
- Performance Testing: Leverage tools like LoadRunner or JMeter to validate system behavior and performance after re-platforming.
- Specialized Tools: Employ JCL simulators, file compare tools, and data validation utilities to automate batch output comparison and defect detection.
Candidate Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess 10-15 years of QA experience with a heavy emphasis on mainframe environments. You must demonstrate a strong track record in rehost modernization projects involving Micro Focus, AWS Mainframe Modernization, Azure, or GCP. Excellent leadership skills are required to mentor a diverse QA team and manage complex defect triage processes in an Agile Scrum environment. This is a high-impact role requiring onsite presence in New Jersey to facilitate close collaboration with the migration engineering teams.

Compensation & Location
Salary: $155,000 – $205,000 per year (Estimated)
