Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Mainframe Test Engineer to ensure the quality of batch and online CICS mainframe applications. This role involves designing, executing, and automating robust tests across COBOL, JCL, DB2, and VSAM components. You will prepare test scenarios and data, execute test cases, validate databases and files, and log defects. The engineer will analyze abends from JES spool, debug using mainframe tools, and review COBOL/DB2 code when necessary. Collaboration with developers and leads is crucial for assessing risks, reporting progress, and delivering on time.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze requirements and technical design documents to derive test scenarios and detailed test cases.
- Prepare and maintain test data using tools such as FileAid, File Manager, and SPUFI.
- Customize and execute JCLs to run batch jobs and validate outcomes.
- Execute functional, integration, and regression tests for CICS online and batch components.
- Perform DB2 testing with SQL validation and verify VSAM files and datasets.
- Investigate and analyze abends from JES spool and debug using tools like Xpediter.
- Review and understand COBOL/DB2 code to trace logic and root cause defects.
- Log and track defects using Quality Center (ALM) and Jira, supporting triage and retesting.
- Identify and escalate risks and issues to leads/managers promptly.
- Provide daily status/progress reports and actively participate in project calls and meetings.
Required Qualifications:
- Hands-on mainframe testing experience across CICS, COBOL, JCL, DB2, and VSAM.
- Proficiency with tools such as FileAid, File Manager, Xpediter, Endevor, and SPUFI.
- Ability to customize and run JCLs for the test environment using production JCLs.
- DB2 database testing and SQL querying skills.
- Experience analyzing abends from JES spool and using debugging tools.
- Ability to analyze COBOL and DB2 code as needed.
- Strong experience with HP Quality Center (ALM) and Jira for test management and defect tracking.
- Knowledge of testing methodologies, techniques, phases, and best practices.
- Excellent communication, organization, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
Additional Information:
- This is an onsite position in Cincinnati, OH.
- The contract duration is 6+ months.
- Locals are preferred.

Compensation & Location
Salary: $70,000 – $100,000 per year (Estimated)
