Position Summary
We are currently seeking an experienced Mainframe IMS System Programmer for a high-impact contract position in Plano, TX, supporting Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). This role is critical for the maintenance, administration, and optimization of large-scale Mainframe IMS database systems. The successful candidate will bring deep technical expertise in IMS environments and a proven track record of managing complex database support activities in an enterprise setting. This is a long-term contract opportunity requiring on-site presence in the Plano technology hub.
Core Responsibilities
- IMS Administration: Provide comprehensive support and administration for Mainframe IMS database systems and all associated supporting products.
- System Configuration: Lead the installation, configuration, and fine-tuning of Mainframe IMS environments to ensure maximum uptime and performance.
- Problem Analysis: Perform deep-dive debugging and problem analysis to resolve complex system issues and prevent future occurrences.
- Database Maintenance: Design and execute critical database administration maintenance tasks, including schema changes and reorganization.
- Change Management: Manage complex database changes and application implementations within strict incident and change management frameworks.
- Performance Tuning: Conduct regular performance monitoring and tuning activities to optimize information flow and content delivery.
- Technical Mentorship: Act as a mentor to junior Database Administrators, sharing best practices and technical knowledge.
- Infrastructure Collaboration: Work closely with technology and infrastructure staff to identify database relationships and functional requirements.
Technical Requirements
- Extensive experience in Mainframe IMS System Programming and Administration.
- Deep knowledge of IMS database structures, including DEDB and MSDB.
- Proficiency in installing and upgrading IMS software and related third-party tools.
- Strong understanding of JCL, TSO/ISPF, and Mainframe utilities.
- Experience with incident and change management principles (ITIL).
- Ability to analyze and resolve issues related to high-volume data processing.

Compensation & Location
Salary: $140,000 – $185,000 per year (Estimated)
