Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Network Engineer Subject Matter Expert (SME) to join our dynamic team in New York City. This is an onsite position requiring a professional with over 10 years of experience in large-scale enterprise environments, specifically within the financial services sector or with major technology vendors. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-level operational support and design expertise for our critical network infrastructure. The role demands a deep understanding of optical networking and the ability to manage complex fiber optic systems in a high-stakes environment.

Technical Expertise and Optical Networking

  • Expertise in DWDM and CWDM technologies is mandatory. You must have a profound understanding of optical transport systems, including the intricacies of amplifiers, multiplexers, and transponders.
  • Hands-on experience with OTDR testing is required. This includes the ability to perform detailed analysis of span loss, identify fiber bends, and detect degradation on dark fiber.
  • Direct experience working with carriers to remediate dark fiber issues is essential for maintaining network integrity and ensuring maximum uptime.
  • Practical configuration and troubleshooting experience with carrier-grade optical platforms, specifically Adva FSP3000R7 and Ciena 6500, is a core requirement of this role.

Networking and Infrastructure Skills

  • A strong grasp of Ethernet technologies is expected, including Spanning Tree Protocol (STP), 802.1Q, Virtual Port Channel (VPC), and Multilayer Switching.
  • Experience with Leaf-Spine IP Fabric architectures is highly desirable for modern data center environments.
  • Proficiency in IP Routing protocols such as RIP, OSPF, BGP, MPBGP, and a deep understanding of the TCP/IP stack.
  • Extensive platform knowledge on Cisco Switching and Routing platforms, as well as Arista Switching platforms, is necessary for day-to-day operations and long-term planning.

Security and Compliance

  • Candidates must demonstrate a strong sense of security concepts, including defense in depth, zero-trust networking, and the principle of least privilege.
  • Understanding risks and controls within a highly regulated financial environment is crucial for maintaining compliance and protecting sensitive data.

Special Requirements

Only locals to NY, NJ, and PA; SME level experience required; Must be able to work on weekends for deployments; Domain: Financial Services preferred.


Compensation & Location

Salary: $165,000 – $215,000 per year
