Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Network Engineer specializing in wLAN and WiFi technologies to join our dynamic IT infrastructure team in Raleigh, NC. This is a critical role that requires a blend of deep technical expertise in wireless networking and a willingness to travel extensively to support our remote sites. As a Senior Network Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, and optimization of complex wireless and wired network solutions across a diverse geographical footprint.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the architecture design and systems implementation of middle-of-row to core connectivity, ensuring high availability and performance.
- Perform extensive travel (50% or greater) to remote sites for comprehensive site surveys, equipment installation, and hardware upgrades.
- Act as the Tier 3 escalation point for complex LAN and Wireless issues, providing expert-level troubleshooting for problems escalated from Tier 2 engineers.
- Utilize Ekahau Sidekick and other advanced site survey tools for meticulous planning and validation of wireless coverage and capacity.
- Configure and support a wide range of wireless systems, including Cisco Meraki, HPE Aruba, Juniper Mist, and Fortinet solutions.
- Manage IOS Layer 2 and Layer 3 configurations, including the design and implementation of OSPF, EIGRP, RIP, and Static routing solutions.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior and Tier 2 LAN engineers to foster a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive network documentation, including detailed diagrams, configuration standards, and site-specific records.
- Mitigate security vulnerabilities affecting switches and other network hardware through regular patching and configuration hardening.
- Collaborate with cross-functional IT teams to deliver integrated system solutions that meet business requirements.
- Perform network performance monitoring and optimization to ensure maximum uptime and efficiency for all users.
- Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for any network outages or performance degradation during authorized maintenance windows.
Technical Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (8+ years of IT experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree).
- Minimum of 5 years of dedicated experience in network engineering and support with a focus on wireless technologies.
- Proven expertise in LAN protocols, architecture design, and large-scale facility deployments.
- Hands-on experience with Cisco and other major vendor network equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret syslog output, sniffer logs, and security logs for deep-dive troubleshooting.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Special Requirements
USC or GC only (No other visas). Local to NC only (No relocation). Extensive travel required (50% or greater). On-site in Raleigh when not traveling.
Compensation & Location
Salary: $115,000 – $155,000 per year (Estimated)
