Role Overview

Novia Infotech LLC is currently seeking a highly skilled and dedicated OpenShift / Kubernetes Administrator to join our client’s dynamic infrastructure team. This role is pivotal in managing and optimizing containerized environments across both pre-production and production landscapes. As a Senior Administrator, you will be responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle of container platforms, ensuring that applications are deployed seamlessly and operate with maximum efficiency and reliability. This position is available in two major tech hubs: Raleigh, North Carolina, and Phoenix, Arizona, offering a great opportunity for professionals in these regions to work on enterprise-scale cloud-native technologies. The ideal candidate will bring a wealth of experience in platform operations, incident management, and disaster recovery planning, ensuring that the underlying infrastructure supports the business’s critical digital transformation goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive operational support for enterprise applications, such as IBM Sterling, within pre-production environments using ServiceNow (SNOW) for ticket management and production environments via Change Tasks (CTASKs).
  • Conduct rigorous connectivity testing between various endpoints and services to validate complex firewall configurations, utilizing both manual verification methods and automated validation scripts to ensure secure communication.
  • Manage the scaling of pods, deployments, and other critical Kubernetes workloads to meet fluctuating demand in both development and live production environments, maintaining optimal resource utilization.
  • Administer and maintain core Kubernetes and OpenShift objects, including ConfigMaps, Secrets, Routes, Services, and Ingress configurations, ensuring security and connectivity standards are met at all times.
  • Execute detailed logging and monitoring activities; this includes the manual extraction of logs using tools like TCP dump when standard logging aggregators are unavailable for deep-dive troubleshooting.
  • Proactively monitor system warnings and alerts on the container platform, initiating incident response protocols within ServiceNow to maintain high availability and minimize downtime.
  • Oversee the lifecycle of SSL/TLS certificates, including Ingress, Route, and Wildcard certificates, through manual updates or automated certificate management systems to ensure encrypted traffic.
  • Coordinate and execute platform patching and version upgrades for OpenShift and Kubernetes clusters, following strict change management procedures to mitigate risk.
  • Perform post-change validation for applications following infrastructure updates, such as F5 load balancer adjustments or OS-level patching, to confirm service restoration.
  • Serve as the primary first responder for platform incidents, handling data collection, deep-dive troubleshooting, and root cause analysis (RCA) coordination with cross-functional teams.
  • Document operational procedures by creating and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Knowledge Base (KB) articles for the broader engineering team.
  • Develop and test Disaster Recovery (DR) plans to ensure business continuity in the event of catastrophic platform failure or regional outages.

Technical Requirements and Qualifications

  • A minimum of 8 to 10 years of professional experience in Information Technology, with a specialized focus on container orchestration and cloud-native infrastructure management.
  • Deep technical expertise in Kubernetes and the Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform (OCP) is mandatory for success in this role.
  • Proficiency in using both Graphical User Interfaces (GUI) and Command Line Interface (CLI) tools for cluster management, resource allocation, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong foundational knowledge of container networking, including service meshes, ingress controllers, and firewall rule validation within a microservices architecture.
  • Proven experience with enterprise logging and monitoring solutions such as Prometheus, Grafana, or the ELK stack to maintain system health visibility.
  • Solid understanding of SSL/TLS certificate management and security best practices within a containerized ecosystem to protect sensitive data.
  • Hands-on experience with platform maintenance, including automated patching, rolling upgrades, and cluster health checks.
  • Familiarity with IT Service Management (ITSM) tools, specifically ServiceNow, for incident, problem, and change tracking.
  • Exceptional analytical and troubleshooting skills, particularly in high-pressure production support scenarios involving complex distributed systems.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to document complex technical processes clearly for diverse stakeholders and participate in technical post-mortems.

Professional Environment and Benefits

The successful candidate will join a team that values technical excellence and proactive problem-solving. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge cloud-native technologies and contribute to the stability of mission-critical applications. We are looking for a professional who is not only technically proficient but also committed to continuous improvement and operational documentation. Whether based in Raleigh or Phoenix, you will be part of a collaborative environment that encourages knowledge sharing and professional growth within the DevOps and Platform Engineering domains. Novia Infotech LLC is committed to providing our consultants with challenging opportunities that align with their career goals and technical expertise, fostering a culture of innovation and reliability.
