Role Overview: Subject Matter Expert (SME) – Optical Network Engineering
Tekbasic LLC is seeking a high-caliber Optical Network Engineer (SME) to join our enterprise infrastructure team. While the role offers some hybrid flexibility with manager approval, the candidate must be prepared to be onsite from day one to support critical infrastructure. This position requires a deep technical expert with over 10 years of experience in large-scale enterprise environments, specifically within the financial services sector. You will be responsible for the design, implementation, and operational support of complex optical networks that form the backbone of our global communications.
Technical Expertise and Core Responsibilities
- Provide expert-level support for DWDM and CWDM technologies, managing optical transport systems, amplifiers, and transponders.
- Conduct hands-on OTDR testing and analysis, identifying span loss, fiber bends, and degradation issues on dark fiber networks.
- Collaborate directly with fiber carriers to remediate physical layer issues and optimize fiber performance.
- Configure and troubleshoot carrier-grade optical platforms, with specific expertise in Adva FSP3000R7 and Ciena 6500 systems.
- Design and maintain Ethernet architectures including STP, 802.1Q, VPC, and Multilayer Switching.
- Implement Leaf-Spine IP Fabrics and manage IP routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF, and MPBGP.
- Maintain platform-specific knowledge for Cisco and Arista switching and routing hardware.
- Apply advanced security concepts, including Zero Trust networking, Defense in Depth, and the Principle of Least Privilege.
- Drive enterprise-level initiatives by working with senior stakeholders across different global regions.
- Participate in weekend execution and deployment windows to ensure zero-downtime transitions for critical financial systems.

Required Skills and Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in Optical Network Engineering within an enterprise or service provider environment.
- Expertise in fiber optic principles and carrier-grade hardware (Ciena, Adva).
- Strong understanding of network security risks and controls.
- Excellent presentation skills to explain complex optical designs to non-technical stakeholders.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends, for critical deployments.
Special Requirements
Onsite from day 1 required; Weekend work required for deployments; Financial services domain experience preferred.
Compensation & Location
Salary: $140,000 – $190,000 per year (Estimated)
