Role Overview
The People Tool Engineer will be a critical asset in a major modernization initiative for a leading banking client. This role focuses on the deep analysis and reverse engineering of complex pension business logic currently residing within legacy PeopleSoft and PeopleTools environments. The primary objective is to extract this logic and translate it into technical specifications that will drive the development of a modern, scalable technology stack. This is a long-term contract opportunity (12+ months) requiring onsite presence in either Columbus, Ohio, or Wilmington, Delaware.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze and document intricate pension business logic implemented within PeopleSoft and PeopleTools modules.
- Perform reverse engineering on existing PeopleTools workflows, SQR scripts, and PeopleCode to understand underlying calculations and data transformations.
- Collaborate with business analysts and subject matter experts to validate the accuracy of extracted logic.
- Translate legacy logic into detailed functional and technical specifications suitable for modern development teams (e.g., Java, Microservices, Cloud-native architectures).
- Identify dependencies and potential risks associated with the migration of legacy pension systems.
- Support the development and testing phases of the modernization project to ensure the new system accurately reflects the original business requirements.
- Provide technical guidance on PeopleTools architecture and its integration with external systems.
Technical Requirements
- Extensive experience with PeopleSoft and PeopleTools (PeopleCode, Application Engine, SQR, Component Interface).
- Proven track record in reverse engineering legacy codebases to extract business rules.
- Strong understanding of pension systems or financial services business logic.
- Ability to bridge the gap between legacy systems and modern technology stacks.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills to interact with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Modernization Strategy
The banking sector is undergoing a massive shift towards cloud-native and microservices-based architectures. As a People Tool Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in this transition. By successfully reverse engineering the pension logic, you enable the client to move away from monolithic legacy systems towards more agile and maintainable solutions. This involves not just code translation, but a fundamental understanding of how data flows and how business rules are applied in a high-stakes financial environment. Your work will ensure that the integrity of pension calculations is maintained while the system is rebuilt on a contemporary stack, improving performance, security, and scalability for the future.
Special Requirements
Banking domain experience required. Onsite in Columbus, OH or Wilmington, DE. 12+ months duration.
