Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Performance Engineer to join a dynamic Testing Enablement team for a leading electric transmission and distribution utility in Dallas, TX. This is a critical role designed for a strategic technical leader who can assess current performance testing capabilities, identify architectural gaps, and implement a robust, enterprise-grade performance testing framework from the ground up. The successful candidate will serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME), driving the performance engineering strategy across multiple platforms and application teams to ensure the reliability of mission-critical infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive current-state assessments of performance testing capabilities across databases, APIs, and infrastructure.
- Design and implement a scalable performance tooling ecosystem using Neoload and JMeter.
- Establish organization-wide standards and governance for performance testing best practices.
- Develop specific load models aligned with production traffic patterns, specifically focusing on high-demand storm-impacted scenarios.
- Collaborate with Enterprise Architecture to define and verify SLA, SLO, and capacity benchmarks.
- Integrate performance testing tools into CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI) to enable continuous performance monitoring.
- Consult with project teams to translate complex business requirements into technical performance test requirements.
- Drive the ‘shift left’ testing maturity model and advocate for Test Driven Development (TDD) practices.
Technical Requirements
- 10+ years of dedicated performance engineering experience with a focus on scalability and optimization.
- Hands-on expertise with Neoload, JMeter, Grafana, and Dynatrace.
- Strong understanding of cloud-native scalability testing and modern application architectures.
- Experience with APM monitoring tools and CI/CD pipeline integration.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and technical teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field is preferred.
Work Environment & Benefits
This position follows a hybrid work model, requiring three days per week on-site in Dallas, TX. The initial contract is for 6 months with a high likelihood of extension. Compensation & Location
Salary: $130,000 – $175,000 per year
