Role Overview: Performance Test Architect

We are seeking a highly experienced Performance Test Architect to lead our performance engineering efforts specifically within the Salesforce (SFDC) ecosystem. This is a critical role based 100% onsite in San Diego, CA, requiring a professional with over 14 years of dedicated experience in performance testing and engineering. The ideal candidate will act as a strategic advisor to our clients, ensuring that enterprise-level applications are robust, scalable, and optimized for peak performance.

Key Responsibilities and Technical Leadership

  • Design and implement comprehensive performance testing strategies for complex COTS-based applications, with a primary focus on Salesforce and MuleSoft integrations.
  • Utilize Apache JMeter as the primary tool for scripting and execution, while leveraging secondary tools like LoadRunner and Neo Load where applicable.
  • Conduct deep-dive analysis of performance test results, identifying bottlenecks in web servers, databases, and APIs at an enterprise scale.
  • Provide actionable recommendations for performance improvement and system optimization to development teams and stakeholders.
  • Troubleshoot complex scripting issues and guide the team to align technical execution with business process expectations.
  • Prepare detailed technical and managerial reports that articulate performance risks and mitigation strategies to executive leadership.

Strategic Impact and Stakeholder Management

  • Act as an enterprise-level advisor, strategizing and planning performance engineering lifecycles for large-scale digital transformations.
  • Manage relationships with diverse stakeholders, ensuring clear communication and articulation of technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Estimate resource requirements and timelines for performance engineering projects, maintaining accountability for delivery excellence.
  • Stay abreast of emerging trends in performance engineering and Salesforce architecture to maintain a competitive edge in system reliability.

Technical Environment and Methodology

The Performance Test Architect will operate within a sophisticated technical landscape that integrates Salesforce with various middleware and backend systems. You will be responsible for defining the performance testing lifecycle, from environment setup and data preparation to execution and analysis. Our methodology emphasizes early performance testing (Shift-Left) to identify architectural flaws before they become costly to fix. You will work closely with DevOps teams to integrate performance tests into the CI/CD pipeline, ensuring that every release meets our stringent quality standards. Your expertise in JMeter will be vital for creating realistic load scenarios that mimic actual user behavior across different geographic regions and device types. Furthermore, you will lead the effort in monitoring system health during tests using APM tools, providing a holistic view of application performance. This role requires a deep understanding of how Salesforce multi-tenant architecture impacts performance and how to navigate the governor limits effectively.

Environment and Culture

Joining our team in San Diego means working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment where innovation is at the forefront. As a Performance Test Architect, you will not just be executing tests; you will be shaping the future of how our enterprise clients interact with their customers through Salesforce. This role demands a proactive mindset, where you anticipate performance issues before they impact the end-user experience. You will be part of a culture that values technical excellence, continuous learning, and transparent communication. The onsite nature of this role ensures high-touch collaboration with local engineering teams, fostering a cohesive approach to quality assurance. We look for leaders who are passionate about stability and who can mentor junior engineers in the art and science of performance tuning.

Why This Role?

This position offers the unique opportunity to work on high-visibility projects that define the operational success of major enterprises. By optimizing Salesforce instances that handle millions of transactions, your work directly impacts the bottom line and customer satisfaction scores. We provide the tools and the platform for you to exercise your architectural expertise, allowing you to build a legacy of high-performing systems. If you are a veteran in the performance space looking for a challenge that combines technical depth with strategic influence, this is the role for you.
