Role Overview: Senior PostgreSQL SQL Developer
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior PostgreSQL SQL Developer to join our dynamic engineering team in a fully remote capacity. As we move into 2026, the demand for robust, scalable, and high-performance database solutions has never been greater. This role is designed for a database expert with over a decade of experience who can lead the design, implementation, and optimization of complex relational database systems. You will be responsible for ensuring the integrity, performance, and security of our data assets while collaborating closely with backend developers and data architects.
Key Responsibilities and Technical Duties
- Design and develop advanced PostgreSQL database schemas, ensuring optimal data normalization and referential integrity for high-concurrency applications.
- Write complex, high-performance SQL queries, stored procedures, and triggers to support business logic and data processing requirements.
- Perform deep-dive SQL performance tuning and query optimization, utilizing EXPLAIN ANALYZE, pg_stat_statements, and other profiling tools to identify and resolve bottlenecks.
- Manage database indexing strategies, including B-tree, GIN, and GiST indexes, to enhance search performance across massive datasets.
- Implement and maintain database security protocols, including role-based access control (RBAC) and data encryption at rest and in transit.
- Collaborate with DevOps teams to manage database migrations, version control for schemas, and automated deployment pipelines.
- Monitor database health and performance metrics, proactively addressing issues related to bloat, vacuuming, and transaction log management.
- Provide expert guidance on data modeling best practices and architectural decisions to support long-term scalability.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in database development and administration within a production environment.
- Extensive hands-on expertise with PostgreSQL, including deep knowledge of its internal architecture and advanced features.
- Proven track record of working with at least one other major RDBMS such as SQL Server, MySQL, or Oracle, allowing for cross-platform data integration.
- Strong understanding of relational database theory, ACID properties, and multi-version concurrency control (MVCC).
- Experience with cloud-based database services (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure Database for PostgreSQL) and containerized environments.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex business requirements into efficient technical solutions.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a distributed, remote team environment.
