Position Overview: Power BI Consultant (Underwriting Domain)
Centraprise is seeking a dedicated and highly analytical Power BI Consultant for a long-term, onsite engagement in Greenville, South Carolina. This is a unique opportunity to bridge the gap between complex data engineering and strategic business decision-making within the insurance and financial services sector. The ideal candidate will not only be a master of the Microsoft Power BI stack but will also possess a deep understanding of underwriting processes, enabling them to create visualizations that drive real business value.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Dashboard Development: Design, develop, and maintain sophisticated Power BI dashboards that provide real-time insights into underwriting performance, risk assessment, and portfolio health.
- Data Modeling: Build and optimize complex data models using DAX and Power Query. Ensure that data structures are scalable and performant for large-scale enterprise datasets.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Work directly with underwriting managers and executives to gather requirements, define key performance indicators (KPIs), and translate business needs into technical solutions.
- Data Integration: Collaborate with data engineering teams to ensure seamless integration between backend data warehouses and the Power BI reporting layer.
- Quality Assurance: Implement rigorous data validation processes to ensure the accuracy and integrity of all financial and underwriting reports.
- Training and Support: Act as a subject matter expert, providing training to end-users on how to navigate dashboards and utilize self-service BI capabilities.
The Importance of Underwriting Domain Expertise
In this role, technical skill is only half the battle. We require a consultant who understands the nuances of the underwriting lifecycle—from application intake and risk evaluation to policy issuance and renewal. Your ability to interpret loss ratios, premium trends, and risk exposure metrics will be critical in developing reports that are not just visually appealing, but strategically significant. You will be expected to provide context to the data, helping the business identify emerging risks and opportunities for growth.
Technical Environment and Tools
The successful candidate will operate within a modern data ecosystem. Proficiency in SQL for data extraction and manipulation is required. Experience with Azure Data Services (such as Azure SQL Database or Synapse Analytics) is highly desirable. As we look toward 2026, we are increasingly integrating advanced analytics and predictive modeling into our BI solutions; therefore, familiarity with R or Python integration within Power BI is a significant plus. You will be responsible for maintaining the Power BI Service environment, including workspace management, gateway configurations, and row-level security (RLS) implementation.

Compensation & Location
Salary: $115,000 – $160,000 per year (Estimated)
