Position Summary

We are seeking a Principal IT Program Manager to join the Information Systems Technology Services (ISTS) team. In this high-impact role, you will provide strategic leadership across multiple large-scale IT programs that are fundamental to the execution of the 10-year True North Strategy. You will be at the forefront of shaping a climate-resilient, digital utility platform that redefines the energy experience for millions of customers. This role requires an accomplished leader who can navigate complex organizational structures and deliver mission-critical projects on time, within scope, and on budget.

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee complex, enterprise-level IT programs, ensuring strict alignment with both business objectives and long-term technology strategies.
  • Establish program goals, performance metrics, and robust governance processes to ensure transparency and accountability.
  • Manage multi-million dollar program budgets, resource allocation, and intricate interdependencies across various departments.
  • Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate risks while ensuring full compliance with audit and regulatory requirements.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration among diverse, cross-functional teams and high-level stakeholders.
  • Communicate program health, milestones, and strategic risks effectively to executive leadership.
  • Drive continuous improvement by implementing industry best practices and innovative methodologies in IT program delivery.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation and reporting standards throughout the program lifecycle.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in IT program and project management.
  • Proven track record of successfully leading complex, large-scale technology transformations.
  • Strong mastery of project management methodologies (Waterfall, Agile, Hybrid).
  • Exceptional leadership, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage ambiguity and make data-driven decisions in a high-pressure environment.

Preferred Skills

  • Active PMP Certification (PMI).
  • SAFe Agilist or SAFe Lean Portfolio Management certification.
  • Experience with PPM tools such as Planisware.
  • Prior experience within the utility or energy sector is a plus.

Special Requirements

Hybrid (2 days onsite per week); Locals only to Oakland or San Ramon, CA.


Compensation & Location

Salary: $190,000 – $260,000 per year (Estimated)
