Role Overview: Senior Python Developer (AI & Modernization)

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Python Developer with over 12 years of professional experience to join a critical modernization project for a State Client in Baltimore, Maryland. This hybrid role focuses on integrating advanced AI APIs and modernizing government systems to improve public-facing applications. The ideal candidate will have a deep background in software engineering, specifically within the Python ecosystem, and a proven track record of delivering scalable, data-driven solutions in a government context.

Key Responsibilities and Technical Scope

  • Design and develop robust backend services using Python frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask, or Django.
  • Integrate cutting-edge AI APIs, including OpenAI, AWS AI services, and Azure AI, to enhance application functionality and automate complex workflows.
  • Architect and maintain relational databases using PostgreSQL or MySQL, ensuring high performance and data integrity through optimized SQL queries.
  • Build and manage containerized applications using Docker and orchestrate microservices architectures.
  • Implement automated CI/CD pipelines using tools like GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Jenkins to ensure seamless deployment cycles.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to modernize legacy government systems, focusing on security, scalability, and user experience.
  • Utilize AI/ML libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, and Scikit-learn to process and analyze large datasets for public-sector applications.
  • Ensure application security by implementing OAuth2, JWT, and other modern authentication protocols.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of 12 years of total professional experience in software development.
  • At least 3 years of dedicated experience in Python-based software engineering.
  • Proven experience working with State or Federal government clients is mandatory.
  • Strong proficiency in relational database management and complex SQL development.
  • Hands-on experience with version control (Git) and project management tools (JIRA).
  • Familiarity with front-end technologies like React or Angular is highly preferred to facilitate full-stack collaboration.
  • Demonstrated interest in AI-enabled application modernization and public-sector digital transformation.

This position offers a unique opportunity to work on high-impact projects that directly affect public services. The contract duration is initially 3 months with a high probability of extension based on performance and project needs. Candidates must be able to work in a hybrid capacity in Baltimore, MD.


Special Requirements

Visa Constraints: NO OPTS/CPTS & GCS ON C2C. Domain Restriction: Must have working experience with State or Federal clients. Interview Mode: Hybrid/Onsite requirements in Baltimore.


Compensation & Location

Salary: $165,000 – $215,000 per year (Estimated)

Location: Baltimore, MD
