Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Python Engineer with specialized expertise in Graph Databases and AWS cloud architecture to join our dynamic engineering team in Chicago. This is a long-term contract position requiring a hybrid work schedule of three days onsite and two days remote per week. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in designing and implementing scalable, secure backend services that leverage complex data relationships to drive business value.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain robust backend services and high-performance APIs using Python frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask, or Django.
- Architect and implement complex data models using Graph Databases like Neo4j or Amazon Neptune, utilizing query languages such as Cypher, Gremlin, or SPARQL.
- Deploy and manage cloud-native services on AWS, including Lambda, EC2, ECS, EKS, API Gateway, S3, and RDS/DynamoDB.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including frontend developers, DevOps engineers, and data scientists, to deliver integrated software solutions.
- Implement and optimize CI/CD pipelines, automation workflows, and observability tools for logging, metrics, and tracing.
- Write clean, well-tested, and maintainable code while adhering to industry best practices and engineering standards.
- Troubleshoot production issues, perform root cause analysis, and optimize system performance, reliability, and cost-efficiency.
- Participate in architectural reviews and technical decision-making processes to ensure the scalability and security of the platform.
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence.
Required Technical Skills
- Minimum of 8-10 years of professional software engineering experience with a strong focus on Python backend development.
- Hands-on experience with Graph Databases (Neo4j, Amazon Neptune) and a deep understanding of graph theory and modeling.
- Proven expertise in AWS core services, particularly in compute, networking, storage, and security (IAM).
- Strong proficiency in RESTful API design, microservices architecture, and event-driven patterns.
- Experience with both relational (PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (DynamoDB) database systems.
- Familiarity with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).
- Solid understanding of Git workflows and modern CI/CD practices.
Professional Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Relevant technical certifications in AWS or Graph Database technologies are highly desirable.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Compensation & Location
Salary: $155,000 – $195,000 per year (Estimated)
