Opportunity Overview: QA Engineer Automation

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) is seeking a highly experienced QA Engineer Automation to support critical applications within the Information Technology – Statewide Education Data System (IT-SEDS). This remote role involves advanced software quality assurance work, where you will lead testing activities, support daily QA operations, and collaborate closely with development teams to ensure the delivery of high-quality system releases for the state of Texas.

Core Responsibilities

  • Test Strategy & Design: Analyze complex user requirements, design documents, and technical specifications to create comprehensive and detailed test cases. You will be responsible for the end-to-end testing lifecycle.
  • Automation Development: Design, develop, and execute automated functional and regression test cases using industry-standard tools. Your work will ensure the stability and reliability of web applications, including specialized reports in HTML, PDF, and Excel formats.
  • Data Validation & SQL: Perform advanced SQL queries to analyze, validate, and manipulate data, ensuring the integrity of the information processed by TEA systems.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with developers and business users to gain a deep understanding of application functionality and business logic. You will communicate testing progress, risks, and issues clearly to stakeholders.
  • Specialized Testing: Execute performance testing and accessibility testing to ensure applications meet high standards of usability and efficiency. You will also perform manual testing and data validation as required by project needs.
  • Multi-Project Support: Provide QA expertise and support for multiple applications and projects across the TEA portfolio, ensuring consistent quality standards.

Required Technical Expertise

  • Extensive Experience: 12+ years of experience testing complex web applications and 7+ years of experience across all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
  • Automation Mastery: 7+ years of hands-on automation testing experience specifically using Selenium and TestNG.
  • Database Proficiency: 5+ years of advanced database and SQL experience for data-driven testing.
  • Programming Skills: 3+ years of experience with Java programming for automation framework development.
  • Performance Testing: 2+ years of experience with tools such as WAPT Pro, JMeter, or similar performance monitoring utilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Playwright automation testing frameworks.
  • Proficiency in parsing web tables to verify complex results.
  • Hands-on experience using Zephyr Scale and JIRA for test management and defect tracking.
  • Familiarity with PEIMS (Public Education Information Management System) data collection.
  • Technical experience using Apache POI and Apache PDFBox for document testing.

Compensation & Location

Salary: $140,000 – $190,000 per year (Estimated)
