Role Overview: Senior Release Manager
We are seeking a highly experienced Release Manager for a critical onsite role in Plano, Texas. With a requirement of 15 years of IT experience, this position is designed for a seasoned leader who can navigate the complexities of enterprise-scale deployments and DevOps transformations. You will be the primary owner of the release lifecycle, ensuring that software is delivered efficiently, reliably, and with minimal risk to the production environment. Plano, Texas, has emerged as a major technology corridor, and this Release Manager position offers the opportunity to work on high-impact projects within a sophisticated IT infrastructure. With 15 years of experience, you are expected to bring a level of maturity and foresight that helps the organization avoid common pitfalls in the software delivery lifecycle. You will be a mentor to junior DevOps engineers and a trusted advisor to the engineering leadership.
Core Responsibilities
- Production Deployment Leadership: You will lead the execution of production deployments, utilizing modern strategies such as blue-green, canary, and rolling updates. Your goal is to ensure zero-downtime transitions and high availability.
- Incident Management and RCA: Beyond deployment, you will own the monitoring of production environments during the release window. You will lead incident triage, manage rollbacks when necessary, and conduct thorough Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to prevent future issues.
- DevOps Transformation: You will play a key role in the organization’s DevOps maturity. This involves tracking and reporting on DORA metrics, including deployment frequency, change failure rate, and Mean Time to Recovery (MTTR).
- CI/CD Pipeline Management: You will have hands-on responsibility for building and maintaining robust CI/CD pipelines. This includes working with tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, or Azure DevOps to automate the path to production.
- Governance and Compliance: Ensure that all releases adhere to ITIL-aligned practices and internal governance standards. You will manage the release calendar and coordinate across multiple application teams to resolve scheduling conflicts.
- Stakeholder Management: Work closely with development, QA, and operations teams to ensure alignment throughout the release cycle. You will provide regular updates to leadership regarding release status and risk profiles.
Technical Requirements
- Extensive Experience: A minimum of 15 years in IT, with at least 8-12 years focused specifically on release management and DevOps.
- Automation Expertise: Proven track record of implementing automation in build and deployment processes.
- Cloud Proficiency: Experience supporting applications in cloud or hybrid environments is essential.
- Agile Methodology: Deep understanding of Agile and Scrum frameworks, particularly in high-velocity release environments.
- Tooling: Mastery of source control (Git), branching strategies, and artifact management tools.
The role demands a balance of technical expertise and project management skills. You must be able to dive into the code and configuration of a CI/CD pipeline one hour and present a risk assessment to a steering committee the next. This position is ideal for a professional who enjoys the high-stakes environment of production releases and is passionate about continuous improvement and operational excellence. You will drive remediation for bottlenecks and contribute to the long-term DevOps roadmap.
