Role Overview: Release Train Engineer (RTE)
We are seeking a highly experienced and dynamic Release Train Engineer (RTE) to lead our Agile Release Train (ART) in Pittsburgh, PA. This is a critical leadership role requiring a minimum of 10 years of professional experience in information technology, with a specific focus on large-scale Agile transformations and automated release management. As the RTE, you will act as a servant leader and coach for the ART, facilitating the processes and execution of the program level. You will be responsible for escalating impediments, managing risk, helping ensure value delivery, and driving relentless improvement across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate Program Increment (PI) Planning readiness by fostering a Continuous Exploration process which drives the synthesis of a Vision, a Roadmap, and Backlogs, and through Pre- and Post-PI Planning meetings.
- Lead and facilitate the PI planning event itself, ensuring all stakeholders are aligned and that the ART is prepared for successful execution.
- Summarize Team PI Objectives into Program PI Objectives and publish them for visibility and transparency.
- Assist tracking the execution of features and capabilities through various metrics and reporting tools.
- Facilitate periodic synchronization meetings, including the ART sync at the Program Level and Scrum of Scrums.
- Coach leaders, teams, and Scrum Masters in Lean-Agile practices and mindsets to improve performance and predictability.
- Manage and optimize the flow of value through the ART using various tools, such as the Program Kanban and other information radiators.
- Provide input on resourcing to address critical bottlenecks and ensure the train remains on track.
- Encourage collaboration between teams and System Architects/Engineering to ensure technical excellence and architectural runway.
- Work with Product Management, Product Owners, and other stakeholders to help ensure strategy and execution alignment.
- Improve the efficiency of the release process by implementing and overseeing automated release management strategies.
- Drive the Lean-Agile transformation by identifying areas for improvement and implementing systemic changes.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in IT, with at least 5 years in a leadership or coaching role within an Agile environment.
- Deep understanding of the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) and experience acting as an RTE for complex trains.
- Proven expertise in Automated Release Management and CI/CD integration within a large enterprise.
- Strong communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to influence and lead without formal authority.
- Experience in Pittsburgh, PA, or willingness to work 100% onsite from day one.
- Relevant certifications such as SAFe Release Train Engineer (RTE), SPC, or PMP-ACP are highly preferred.
- Ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.

Compensation & Location
Salary: $145,000 – $195,000 per year (Estimated)
