Job Description:
We are currently seeking qualified candidates for a Ruby on Rails Web Developer (Programmer 2) opportunity supporting the NYC Civic Engagement Commission (CEC). This role will focus on upgrading, maintaining, and enhancing the Decidim civic participation platform, which powers The Peoples Money, New York Citys participatory budgeting initiative.
Assignment Details:
- Start Date: April, 2026
- End Date: June, 2027
- Duration: Approximately 60 weeks (2,100 hours)
- Schedule: Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (35 hours/week)
- Work Location: Remote
Key Responsibilities:
- Upgrade the Ruby on Rails-based Decidim platform to the latest version.
- Implement and customize new platform features including taxonomies, spam prevention, bulk proposal responses, and accessibility enhancements.
- Maintain and enhance Decidim modules such as Participatory Budgeting, Proposals, Accountability, and Term Customizer.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to exports, image attachments, outbound links, account creation, and other platform components.
- Improve and customize the Groups feature, including bug fixes and user usage statistics views.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions.
- Support code reviews, performance improvements, and platform reliability.
- Assist with deployment processes, CI/CD workflows, and environment management as needed.
Required Skills:
- Minimum 4 years of experience with Ruby on Rails.
- Minimum 4 years of experience with version control systems.
- Minimum 4 years of experience in front-end development using JavaScript and CSS.
- Minimum 4 years of experience working collaboratively with developers, project managers, or designers.
- Ability to quickly onboard to new platforms and systems.
- Resume must include a portfolio link.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience working in Agile development environments.
- Experience with AWS or cloud infrastructure.
Special Requirements
Remote, Agile development experience preferred, AWS or cloud infrastructure experience preferred.
Compensation & Location
Salary: $100,000 – $140,000 per year (Estimated)
