Position Overview: SAP Data Architect

MITS LLC is currently seeking a highly skilled and visionary SAP Data Architect for a critical onsite contract engagement located in the vibrant technology hub of Austin, Texas. As a senior-level architect, you will be the primary authority responsible for building and maintaining the SAP data foundation that powers our client’s enterprise operations. This role is designed for a professional who excels at defining how complex SAP systems store, share, and manage trusted enterprise data across a global landscape. You will work at the intersection of business strategy and technical execution, ensuring that data is treated as a strategic asset that drives competitive advantage.

Key Responsibilities and Deliverables

  • Architectural Leadership: Build the SAP data foundation by defining comprehensive standards for data storage, sharing, and management. You will ensure that enterprise data remains trusted, accurate, and accessible across all business units.
  • Reference Data Architectures: Produce and maintain high-level reference data architectures. This involves leveraging expert input from cross-functional teams, including application development, analytics, integration, platform engineering, and security. These architectures will serve as the blueprint for all new solutions and enterprise-wide data initiatives.
  • AI and Analytics Enablement: Play a pivotal role in enabling advanced analytics and Artificial Intelligence (AI) use cases. You will ensure that data is consistently governed, discoverable, and formatted to support machine learning models and predictive analytics.
  • Data Unification: Leverage cutting-edge tools such as SAP Business Data Cloud, SAP Datasphere, and SAP Master Data Governance (MDG) to unify disparate data sources and eliminate redundant or duplicate data copies, thereby reducing storage costs and improving data integrity.
  • Common Data Models: Define and maintain common data model catalogs. Your goal is to create a shared, enterprise-wide understanding of core business data entities, ensuring that ‘Customer’ or ‘Product’ means the same thing across every department.
  • Governance and Standards: Evolve and enforce data governance, ownership, metadata management, and lineage standards. You will be responsible for ensuring that data flows are transparent and compliant with regulatory requirements.
  • System Protection: Protect core transactional systems (ERP) by designing architectures that prevent excessive replication and extraction loads, maintaining system performance and stability.

Technical Proficiency Requirements

  • Domain Expertise: Deep and comprehensive knowledge of SAP master and transactional data domains is required. You should understand the intricacies of how data moves through SAP S/4HANA or ECC environments.
  • Platform Experience: Hands-on experience with SAP MDG, SAP Business Data Cloud, SAP BW, and SAP Datasphere is essential. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to configure and optimize these platforms for large-scale enterprises.
  • Data Management Practices: Expert-level skills in data modeling (conceptual, logical, and physical), metadata management, data quality assessment, and robust data governance frameworks.
  • Integration Skills: Proven experience in integrating SAP data with non-SAP analytics and reporting platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Azure Data Lake, or AWS Redshift) to create a unified reporting ecosystem.

Soft Skills and Professional Attributes

  • Consensus Building: The ability to align diverse data and engineering teams around a shared data vision. You must be able to drive consensus on difficult data standards and architectural decisions.
  • Facilitation: Strong facilitation skills are necessary to resolve conflicts regarding data ownership and definition between different business stakeholders.
  • Communication: You must be a clear and persuasive communicator who can explain complex architecture choices, technical trade-offs, and potential cost impacts to both technical teams and executive stakeholders.
  • Pragmatic Mindset: A focus on delivering tangible business value through reuse and simplification rather than over-engineering solutions.
  • Constructive Critique: Comfortable challenging designs constructively during Architecture Review Board (ARB) reviews to ensure the highest quality of delivery.

Work Environment

This is an onsite contract position based in Austin, TX. Candidates must be prepared to collaborate in person with local teams to drive project milestones.
