Job Description
We are looking for a Senior Android Developer with a specialized focus on telephony and carrier-grade applications to join our engineering team. This role is pivotal in supporting Dish Network’s mobile ecosystem, requiring a deep understanding of the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) and carrier-specific requirements. You will lead the design and development of core features that interact directly with mobile networks, ensuring high performance and reliability across a wide range of devices and OS versions. Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop core Android applications with a specific focus on telephony, carrier use cases, and network interaction.
- Manage the full application lifecycle, from initial requirement gathering through development, testing, and global release.
- Lead the investigation and resolution of complex issues reported by OEMs, field defects, and carrier certification blockers.
- Ensure application compatibility with new Android OS releases, SDK updates, and evolving platform behaviors.
- Collaborate with OEM partners, platform engineering teams, and QA to deliver high-quality, certified mobile solutions.
- Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Android Telephony APIs, system behaviors, and specific carrier requirements.
- Provide technical guidance and implement best practices for Android development, focusing on performance, stability, and security.
- Optimize background execution and permission handling to comply with the latest Android OS restrictions.
Technical Requirements
The successful candidate will have a proven track record of developing robust Android applications that interface with hardware and network layers. You should be comfortable debugging at the application, framework, and device levels. Experience with Kotlin and Java is mandatory, as is a deep understanding of the Android lifecycle and system services. Working with Dish Network requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to navigate complex technical landscapes involving multiple stakeholders and external partners.
Qualifications
- 8-10+ years of hands-on experience in Android application development.
- Deep understanding of Android OS internals, including lifecycle management, permissions, and background execution limits.
- Proven experience supporting applications across multiple Android OS versions and device types.
- Direct experience working with OEMs and carrier partners to resolve platform-specific and certification issues.
- Expert-level debugging skills across the entire Android stack.
- Proficiency in Kotlin and Java is required.
- Familiarity with Android Telephony APIs and carrier-specific application requirements.

Compensation & Location
Salary: $135,000 – $175,000 per year (Estimated)
