Job Summary:
We are seeking a Senior Applied AI Engineer / Architect to lead the design and delivery of enterprise-grade AI systems. This is a hands-on technical leadership role responsible for building production AI solutions across insurance use cases including Underwriting, Claims, Policy, and Operations. This role combines architecture, hands-on engineering, and technical ownership. You will design scalable AI systems, build prototypes, guide engineering teams, and ensure solutions meet enterprise standards for security, reliability, governance, and explainability. This person is the technical owner for applied AI solutions. If something breaks or stalls, this role owns the fix or the decision.
What You’ll Do:
- Own technical design and delivery of applied AI solutions from concept through production.
- Translate business problems into practical AI approaches (e.g., retrieval-based solutions, workflow automation, ML/AI hybrids).
- Build prototypes and production services, partnering with engineering teams to operationalize them.
- Define and enforce engineering standards for reliability, monitoring, security, and model/AI governance.
- Design system integrations with internal platforms (e.g., policy, claims, document/content systems, data platforms).
- Lead technical reviews, mentor engineers, and drive consistent implementation patterns across teams.
- Make sound tradeoffs across accuracy, latency, cost, control, and auditability.
What You Bring:
- Proven experience delivering production AI/ML solutions in an enterprise environment (insurance or other regulated industries preferred).
- Strong software engineering fundamentals: API/service design, testing, versioning, and operational readiness.
- Hands-on ability to build AI applications (Python preferred; additional languages a plus).
- Experience with modern AI techniques (e.g., LLM application development, retrieval/knowledge grounding, evaluation/quality methods).
- Familiarity with cloud-based architectures and deploying services at scale (Azure preferred).
- Ability to communicate technical decisions clearly and partner across Security, Legal/Compliance, and business stakeholders.
- Experience in underwriting, claims, policy administration, or insurance operations.
- Experience building governed AI systems (access control, PII handling, audit logs, human-in-the-loop).
- Experience guiding distributed/offshore engineering teams.

Compensation & Location
Salary: $150,000 – $200,000 per year (Estimated)
