Role Overview
The Senior AWS Cloud Engineer will play a pivotal role in driving AWS cloud modernization and automation for our enterprise clients. This role focuses on architecting high-performance solutions, mentoring junior engineers, and collaborating across cross-functional teams to optimize cloud application deployments. In addition, the Senior Cloud Engineer is responsible for creating required automation using the latest DevOps tools and services to reduce manual tasks and increase speed to market. They should be able to write Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to document processes and procedures following the required standards and industry best practices. This position is based in Newark, NJ, and follows a hybrid work model, requiring a blend of remote flexibility and on-site collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and implementation of advanced AWS solutions, ensuring scalability, resilience, and cost-effectiveness across the infrastructure.
- Champion automation and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform to streamline operations and reduce manual processes.
- Drive improvements in CI/CD pipelines and cloud-native application delivery using tools like Jenkins and Bitbucket.
- Establish monitoring, logging, and alerting best practices for high availability and reliability using CloudWatch, Prometheus, and Grafana.
- Collaborate with security and compliance teams to enforce governance policies and maintain a secure cloud environment.
- Mentor Cloud Engineers and guide them in best practices and technical growth through code reviews and architectural workshops.
- Develop FinOps practices focusing on standardization, cost optimization, and a show-back model to manage cloud spend effectively.
- Act as a subject matter expert (SME) in AWS and provide guidance to stakeholders on cloud strategy and migration paths.
- Act as a point of escalation for troubleshooting and resolving complex technical issues within the cloud ecosystem.
Technical Requirements
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field. We require 15+ years of experience in IT infrastructure, with at least 7+ years specifically focused on AWS cloud engineering. Candidates must demonstrate solid hands-on experience working with AWS compute, storage, backup, networking, hybrid connectivity, IAM, security, Control Tower, and AWS Organizations. Strong proficiency in Terraform for Infrastructure as Code is essential. Experience with Kubernetes (EKS) and container orchestration is highly preferred. Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and automation tools like Jenkins and Bitbucket is required. Familiarity with observability tools such as CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, or Datadog is expected. A proven track record of leading complex AWS migrations or modernization initiatives is a significant advantage. Awareness of cost optimization practices within AWS and understanding of migration tools like MGN, DMS, and S3 Sync are necessary. AWS Professional certification is strongly preferred. Additionally, experience with networking fundamentals (AWS Direct Connect, PrivateLink, VPN, VPCs, routing, load balancing) and Microsoft Active Directory, EntraID, DHCP, and DNS is required. Basic understanding of Amazon Workspaces and working knowledge of security tools like CrowdStrike, CASB, Rapid7, CyberArk, Centrify, SSO, and MFA are beneficial. Familiarity with data analytics platforms like Snowflake and Databricks is a plus.

Compensation & Location
Salary: $185,000 – $235,000 per year (Estimated)
