The Senior Business Analyst for Commercial Insurance is a high-level strategic role designed for a seasoned professional with over 15 years of experience in the insurance and financial services domain. This position requires a deep, nuanced understanding of underwriting processes, actuarial data requirements, and complex enterprise data warehouse architectures. Located 100% onsite in either New York City or Jersey City, the successful candidate will act as the primary bridge between senior business stakeholders and technical delivery teams, ensuring that complex business needs are translated into robust technical solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Document current business processes and workflows to identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and opportunities for digital optimization.
  • Create detailed process maps and diagrams to aid in visualizing and understanding current and future states of the insurance lifecycle.
  • Facilitate high-stakes meetings and presentations to share insights and gather feedback from executive leadership.
  • Manage relationships with key business resources across underwriting and actuarial departments to ensure alignment on project goals.
  • Oversee complex systems implementations across multiple functional areas and international territories.
  • Ensure dataflow integrity into Enterprise Data Warehouses (EDW) and onwards to further downstream reporting applications.

  • Collaborate with multiple external vendors and internal delivery teams to achieve on-time, on-budget, and high-quality delivery.
  • Provide strategic recommendations on application and environment architecture based on dataflow analysis.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 15 years of professional experience as a Business Analyst in a major consultancy or corporate environment.
  • Extensive background in Commercial Insurance, specifically focusing on underwriting requirements and actuarial processes.
  • Proven experience with Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) implementations and complex data ecosystems.
  • Strong IT and business stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence decision-making.
  • Demonstrable hands-on experience with complex systems implementations across multiple functional areas.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to present technical recommendations to non-technical audiences.
  • Previous experience with commercial combined insurance products is highly beneficial.

Strategic Impact and Environment

In the modern commercial insurance landscape, the role of a Senior Business Analyst has evolved into a strategic advisory position. You will be tasked with unraveling complex legacy workflows and replacing them with streamlined, data-driven processes that leverage modern technology. Your expertise in Commercial Combined Insurance products will be a significant asset as you navigate the nuances of different coverage types and regulatory requirements. Furthermore, the technical landscape involves a sophisticated Enterprise Data Warehouse. You must understand how data moves from the point of entry in an underwriting application through various transformation layers and finally into reporting tools used by actuarial teams. This requires a high level of technical literacy and the ability to ensure data integrity across the entire pipeline. You will also be responsible for mentoring junior analysts and contributing to the overall Business Analysis Center of Excellence within the organization, sharing best practices and methodologies that drive operational excellence. This position is a unique opportunity for a veteran of the insurance industry to lead high-impact projects that define the future of underwriting and data management for a major organization.
