Role Overview
VBeyond Corporation is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior COBOL Engineer for a long-term engagement in Cincinnati, OH. This role is specifically targeted at local candidates who possess a deep understanding of mainframe technologies and have a proven track record in the Wealth Management domain. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of complex mainframe applications that support critical financial operations. This position requires a minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience and a mastery of the COBOL programming language within a TSO/CICS environment. The financial services industry continues to rely heavily on mainframe stability, and as we move into 2026, the need for engineers who can bridge the gap between legacy reliability and modern integration standards is more critical than ever. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring that Wealth Management platforms remain scalable, secure, and efficient.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop robust software solutions using COBOL and Mainframe technologies to meet business requirements in the Wealth Management sector.
- Perform system integration and functional software design, ensuring that all components work seamlessly within the existing infrastructure.
- Lead testing and quality assurance efforts, including unit testing, integration testing, and supporting user acceptance testing (UAT).
- Manage complex data conversions and system integrations, particularly focusing on legacy system modernization and data migration.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including business analysts, architects, and project managers, within a SAFe Agile framework.
- Conduct peer reviews and provide technical mentorship to junior developers to ensure high-quality code and adherence to best practices.
- Ensure comprehensive documentation of complex systems, including technical specifications, architectural diagrams, and operational manuals.
- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues in a timely manner, ensuring minimal disruption to business operations.
- Optimize existing mainframe code to improve performance and reduce processing time during batch cycles.
Technical Requirements
- Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in software engineering with a focus on Mainframe technologies.
- Expert-level proficiency in COBOL programming and maintenance.
- Extensive experience with Mainframe tools and environments, including TSO, CICS, SAS, MQ, and JCL.
- Strong understanding of system integration patterns and functional software design principles.
- Proven experience in testing methodologies and quality assurance practices.
- Familiarity with Wealth Management mainframe applications is highly preferred.
- Direct experience with AMTrust/AMAdministrator or Global Plus/Unity platforms is a significant advantage.
- Experience working within a SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) environment.
- Knowledge of message queuing (MQ) and its application in high-volume financial transaction processing.

Location and Logistics
This position is strictly for local candidates in the Cincinnati, OH area. Candidates must be able to work on-site as required by the client. Salary: $114,400 – $124,800 per year
