Role Overview: Senior Mainframe Database Administrator
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Database Administrator (DBA) specializing in Mainframe and Enterprise Databases to join a critical project for the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) in Tallahassee, FL. This is a high-impact role requiring a minimum of 15 years of combined experience across multiple database platforms, with a primary focus on DB2 for z/OS. The successful candidate will be responsible for the health, performance, and integrity of large-scale integrated database environments that support complex financial and enterprise-wide application ecosystems.
Key Responsibilities and Technical Duties
- Manage and maintain DB2 for z/OS environments, including integration, performance management, and catalog maintenance.
- Execute complex upgrade processes and subsystem point-in-time recovery procedures to ensure data availability and disaster recovery readiness.
- Utilize JCL (Job Control Language) and z/OS platform architecture to optimize database operations and batch processing.
- Monitor system performance using DB2 and z/OS monitoring tools, interpreting data to proactively address potential bottlenecks.
- Oversee CA GEN model management and utilize ISPF, ASG Scheduler, and COBOL for various administrative and development tasks.
- Provide solid working knowledge and support for z/OS started task creation, IBI z/OS service support, and AFOPER commands.
- Collaborate with security teams on RACF, CICS, and IOF configurations to maintain a secure database environment.
- Administer and integrate Oracle (10g and above) and Microsoft SQL Server (2008R2, 2012) databases, ensuring cross-platform performance tuning and stability.
- Participate in technical infrastructure planning and coordination, including verification and testing techniques for infrastructure change management.
- Support modern environments including Windows Server, SSMS, SSRS, SSIS, and Azure cloud integrations.
Professional Requirements and Qualifications
The ideal candidate must possess a deep understanding of z/OS EXITs, BJS, and disaster recovery requirements. Beyond technical prowess, we require a professional who can navigate the complexities of a large state agency environment. This role is strictly onsite in Tallahassee, requiring a local presence or a candidate willing to relocate immediately. Given the seniority of this position, candidates must demonstrate a track record of managing mission-critical data for large organizations. Excellent communication skills are essential for coordinating with cross-functional technical teams and stakeholders.

Compensation & Location
Salary: $145,000 – $195,000 per year (Estimated)
