Role Overview
VedaSoft Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Senior Database Management Specialist for a long-term government assignment based in Baltimore, MD. This hybrid role requires a local candidate with deep expertise in PostgreSQL and MongoDB within AWS environments. The successful candidate will play a critical role in designing, supporting, and migrating enterprise-scale databases that support vital public services. This position is a contract-based engagement with a duration of over one year, starting in March 2026.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and support enterprise-scale database architectures to ensure high availability, scalability, and peak performance.
- Perform comprehensive PostgreSQL DBA activities, including patching, performance tuning, backups, and replication management.
- Manage MongoDB environments, overseeing installation, maintenance, and high-availability configurations.
- Build and maintain complex data extraction and ETL processes using PostgreSQL, Informatica, and MongoDB.
- Support and optimize database environments hosted on AWS cloud infrastructure, ensuring security and cost-efficiency.
- Lead large-volume database migrations, ensuring data integrity and minimal downtime during transitions.
- Develop and optimize complex SQL queries to support business intelligence and application requirements.
- Integrate database changes into CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins, Bamboo, Git, and Bitbucket.
- Participate in on-call rotations and provide off-hours support for critical system maintenance and emergency troubleshooting.
Mandatory Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Business, or a related technical field.
- Minimum of 6 years of professional experience in enterprise-scale database design and support.
- At least 4 years of hands-on experience as a PostgreSQL DBA, including tuning and replication.
- At least 4 years of experience managing MongoDB environments in a production setting.
- At least 4 years of experience with ETL tools, specifically Informatica, in conjunction with modern database systems.
- At least 4 years of experience supporting databases in AWS cloud environments.
- Proven track record of at least 2 years managing large-volume database migrations.
- Strong proficiency in SQL performance tuning and complex query development.
- Experience working within a DevOps culture using Jira, Git, and CI/CD tools.
Preferred Domain Experience
Candidates with prior experience in healthcare, health insurance, or human services domains will be given priority. Understanding the regulatory and data privacy requirements inherent in these sectors is highly beneficial for this government assignment. The ability to navigate complex compliance frameworks is essential for success in this role.
Work Environment and Compliance
This is a hybrid position requiring the candidate to be local to the Baltimore, MD area. The role involves working with sensitive government data; therefore, all candidates must be eligible to pass enhanced background and security checks. Flexibility to work weekends or off-hours for deployments and maintenance is a requirement of the position. Candidates must provide their work authorization status and hourly rate expectations upon submission.

Compensation & Location
Salary: $135,000 – $175,000 per year (Estimated)
