Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior GIS Analyst for a critical 6-month contract role within the Utility sector. This position is 100% remote, though candidates must be prepared to work strictly within Eastern Standard Time (EST) hours to align with project stakeholders and team collaboration sessions. As a Senior GIS Analyst, you will be at the forefront of geospatial technology implementation, supporting and leading GIS efforts for high-priority active and planned utility projects. Your primary objective will be to translate complex business requirements into high-quality technical deliverables using the NextEra Energy Geospatial Platform and the full suite of ESRI products.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the support of assigned utility projects as the primary GIS Subject Matter Expert (SME), attending all project meetings and collaborating with cross-functional business units.
- Develop and maintain sophisticated web applications, project-specific data layers, and organized project folder structures to ensure data integrity and accessibility.
- Manage transmission routing efforts by coordinating closely with internal developers and external consultants performing specialized routing studies.
- Configure and deploy ArcGIS Field Maps to support mobile data collection and field operations, ensuring seamless synchronization between field and office environments.
- Establish and manage collaboration locations in ArcGIS Online (AGOL) to facilitate effective data sharing with external vendors and consultants using approved data schemas.
- Act as a GIS Project Manager for specific initiatives, providing technical oversight for RFP/Bid processes and awarded project execution.
- Communicate project status, technical hurdles, and geospatial insights effectively to the Principal Analyst and other senior leadership.
Technical Requirements and Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess 5-6 years of professional experience in GIS analysis, specifically within the utility or energy infrastructure domain. Proficiency in the ESRI ecosystem is mandatory, including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and ArcGIS Enterprise. Experience with transmission routing and utility-specific geospatial platforms is highly preferred. Candidates must demonstrate a strong ability to manage complex data management tasks and perform spatial analysis that informs business decisions. Excellent communication skills are required to coordinate with external consultants and lead internal technical discussions. This role requires a proactive individual who can work independently in a remote environment while maintaining high standards of technical excellence and project accountability.
Project Context and Impact
In the evolving landscape of 2026, utility companies are increasingly reliant on precise geospatial data to manage aging infrastructure and integrate renewable energy sources. Your work as a Senior GIS Analyst will directly impact the efficiency of transmission routing and the accuracy of asset management. By leveraging the NextEra Energy Geospatial Platform, you will help the organization achieve its business goals through data-driven insights and robust web-based mapping solutions. This contract offers a unique opportunity to work on large-scale utility projects that are shaping the future of energy distribution in the United States.
Special Requirements
