Position Summary

Convex Tech Inc is recruiting a Lead Windows Server Engineer (Senior Integrator) for a critical 6-month Contract-to-Hire engagement supporting the Department of Transportation (DOT) in Washington, DC. This high-impact role involves leading and managing system and server administration services within the DOT Common Operating Environment (COE). The successful candidate will oversee a multi-discipline team of engineers supporting Microsoft, Unix, Linux, and Solaris platforms, ensuring the stability and security of an environment encompassing over 2,000 servers across multiple field sites.

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead the service delivery of server and system operations, providing Tier 2 and Tier 3 level troubleshooting and incident response.
  • Manage Windows servers, Active Directory, remote desktop services, and OS vulnerability remediation.
  • Oversee Windows Server and workstation patching cycles and hypervisor management using VMware and Hyper-V.
  • Provision and manage servers across diverse environments including on-premise data centers and cloud providers (AWS GovCloud, Azure, Google, Oracle).
  • Design and deploy High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) capabilities to ensure business continuity.
  • Support the migration of field site infrastructure to the Cloud and manage modern identity tools like MS Entra and Keyfactor.
  • Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Problem Management for complex production issues.

Technical Leadership and Innovation

  • Identify opportunities for automation and scripting using MS Graph, PowerShell, and VBScript to enhance service delivery.
  • Maintain comprehensive system documentation, including installation guides and troubleshooting protocols.
  • Collaborate with team members to research and apply new technical solutions for application initiatives.
  • Serve as the final escalation point for complex application support issues, providing direction for service restoration.
  • Ensure compliance with DISA STIG and CIS Benchmark guidelines for all Microsoft Windows servers.

Operational Requirements

This position requires a full-time onsite presence at DOT Headquarters in Washington, DC. The ideal candidate will be available for a later shift, providing support until 7:00 PM daily. Additionally, the role involves a 24×7 on-call escalation rotation approximately once every 2-3 months. Candidates must be clearable for a DOT Public Trust background investigation. With over 12 years of required experience, this role demands a seasoned professional capable of thriving in a fast-paced ITSM environment while managing large-scale enterprise operations.


Special Requirements

Clearable for DOT Public Trust; 6-month Contract-to-Hire; Full-time Onsite at DOT HQ; 24×7 on-call rotation every 2-3 months; Shift ends between 5pm-7pm.


Compensation & Location

Salary: $145,000 – $195,000 per year (Estimated)
