Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Kafka / Confluent Administrator to join our team. This role is crucial for supporting and enhancing our on-premise event streaming platform, with a primary focus on the Confluent Platform. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing and improving our Kafka infrastructure, ensuring cluster reliability and performance, and actively participating in ongoing platform upgrades and improvements. Experience with Apache Kafka and AWS MSK is highly beneficial for supporting our diverse environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, deploy, and maintain highly available Kafka clusters across various environments, including on-premise, cloud, and managed services like Confluent Cloud or AWS MSK.
- Efficiently manage Kafka topics, partitions, quotas, and retention policies to optimize performance and cost-effectiveness.
- Provide robust support for upgrades, patches, and migrations of existing Kafka environments.
- Work extensively with core Kafka ecosystem components, including Kafka Connect, Schema Registry, MirrorMaker / Confluent Replicator, and REST Proxy.
- Gain exposure to and potentially support Kafka Streams and ksqlDB.
- Perform in-depth performance tuning for both producers and consumers, focusing on aspects like batching, compression, acknowledgements, ISR, and controller health.
- Conduct throughput testing, benchmarking, and overall performance optimization initiatives.
- Assist in maintaining comprehensive technical documentation and operational runbooks for the Kafka platform.
Preferred Experience and Skills:
- Demonstrated strong experience in administering Apache Kafka and the Confluent Platform.
- Proven experience working with AWS MSK or other cloud-based Kafka services.
- Familiarity with monitoring tools and best practices for troubleshooting and maintaining Kafka cluster health.
- Experience supporting production environments and a strong commitment to ensuring system reliability and uptime.
- Exposure to Kafka Streams and ksqlDB is considered a significant plus.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
Location and Contract Details:
- This is an onsite role requiring presence in either Denver, CO or St. Louis, MO.
- The position is a 6-month contract.
