Role Overview
Alltech Consulting is seeking a Senior Mainframe Application Developer for a critical onsite role in Wilmington, Delaware. This position is designed for a technical expert with deep roots in IBM-Z/OS environments, specifically within the banking and cards domain. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, debugging, and maintaining high-performance code in a large-scale corporate environment. This role demands a professional who can balance legacy system stability with modern Agile methodologies, ensuring that mission-critical financial applications remain resilient, secure, and efficient.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain complex mainframe applications using COBOL, CICS, and DB2 to support banking operations.
- Manage and optimize data storage and retrieval processes using VSAM and JCL, ensuring high availability and performance.
- Implement and troubleshoot message queuing solutions using IBM MQ to facilitate seamless data exchange between systems.
- Utilize CA7 for job scheduling and Changeman for version control and software configuration management.
- Perform rigorous debugging and analytical tasks to resolve production issues and improve application stability.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams in an Agile environment, contributing to CI/CD pipelines and application resiliency initiatives.
- Ensure all code adheres to strict corporate security standards and industry regulations regarding financial data.
- Participate in the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), from requirements gathering and design to testing and deployment.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior developers, fostering a culture of innovation and technical excellence.
Required Technical Skills
- Extensive hands-on experience with IBM-Z/OS, COBOL, CICS, and DB2 is mandatory.
- Proficiency in IBM Mainframe Utilities, JCL, VSAM, and IBM MQ.
- Experience with enterprise-level tools such as CA7 for scheduling and Changeman for change management.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proven ability to debug complex code in high-pressure environments.
- Knowledge of modern software development practices, including Agile, CI/CD, and DevOps integration within a mainframe context.
- Prior experience in the Banking and Cards industry is highly preferred, providing the necessary context for financial transaction processing.

Compensation & Location
Salary: $130,000 – $170,000 per year
