Role Overview:
We are seeking a highly experienced Mainframe Developer with deep expertise in COBOL, CICS, DB2, and JCL to support and enhance mission-critical applications. The candidate will play a key role in development, maintenance, production support, and modernization initiatives in a high-volume enterprise environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, test, and maintain mainframe applications using COBOL, CICS, DB2, and JCL.
- Analyze business requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
- Perform impact analysis and support system enhancements and upgrades.
- Develop and optimize DB2 SQL queries, stored procedures, and performance tuning.
- Handle production support, incident resolution, and root cause analysis.
- Work on batch and online (CICS) processing systems.
- Prepare functional and technical design documents.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including QA, business analysts, and infrastructure teams.
- Participate in code reviews, testing (unit, integration, UAT), and deployment activities.
- Ensure adherence to coding standards, security policies, and SLA commitments.
Required Technical Skills:
- Strong hands-on experience in:
- COBOL (Structured & Object-Oriented)
- CICS (Customer Information Control System)
- DB2 (SQL, Stored Procedures, Performance Tuning)
- JCL (Job Control Language)
- Experience with:
- VSAM, IMS (optional but preferred)
- Mainframe utilities (SORT, IDCAMS, IEBGENER)
- Debugging tools like Expeditor, Abend-AID
- Knowledge of:
- Batch processing and scheduling tools (e.g., Control-M, CA-7)
- Version control tools (Endevor, Changeman)
- Familiarity with mainframe modernization or API integration is a plus.
Soft Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced production support environment.
- Team player with mentoring capabilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- Experience in banking, financial services, or insurance domains.
- Exposure to Agile/Scrum methodologies.
- Experience in modernization initiatives (Mainframe to distributed/cloud).
Nice to Have:
- Knowledge of REST APIs, Microservices integration with mainframe.
- Experience with DevOps tools and CI/CD pipelines for mainframe.
- Exposure to tools like z/OS Connect, IBM MQ.
