Position Summary
Innovyt is looking for an experienced Senior Network Engineer to support our infrastructure operations in the Providence, Rhode Island area. This is a hybrid contract position requiring two days per week on-site at our Providence location. We are also open to candidates based in the Greater Boston area who are willing to commute to Providence for the required on-site days. The ideal candidate will have over 8 years of professional experience in networking, with a specific focus on Fortigate security appliances and Cisco enterprise hardware. This role is critical for maintaining the stability, security, and performance of our client’s enterprise network infrastructure.
Core Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and manage enterprise-grade network solutions using Cisco Nexus (9K/7K/5K) and Catalyst switches.
- Configure and maintain Fortigate firewalls to ensure robust perimeter security, content filtering, and secure VPN connectivity.
- Perform proactive network monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance tuning to maintain high availability and minimize downtime.
- Collaborate with cross-functional IT teams to integrate network services with cloud platforms (AWS/Azure) and on-premise applications.
- Manage complex VLAN structures, routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP), and switching technologies across a distributed environment.
- Execute hardware upgrades, firmware patches, and security audits on a regular schedule to mitigate vulnerabilities.
- Provide Tier 3 support for complex network outages, connectivity issues, and security incidents.
- Document network architecture, IP addressing schemes, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the broader IT team.
- Participate in capacity planning and disaster recovery drills to ensure business continuity in the event of a major failure.
- Optimize network traffic flow and implement Quality of Service (QoS) policies for voice and video applications.
- Work closely with security teams to implement and enforce network access control (NAC) policies.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 8 years of hands-on experience in Network Engineering within an enterprise environment.
- Expert-level proficiency with Fortigate firewall administration and security policy management.
- Deep technical knowledge of Cisco Nexus and Catalyst series switches, including stacking and VDC configurations.
- Proven track record of managing complex, multi-site network environments in a senior capacity.
- Strong understanding of network security best practices, including encryption, tunneling, and threat prevention.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a hybrid team setting.
- Relevant certifications such as CCNP (Enterprise/Security) or NSE 4/5/6 are highly preferred.
Work Environment and Location
This role is based in Providence, RI. Local candidates are preferred to facilitate the hybrid work model, which involves 2 days of in-office collaboration per week. Candidates from the Greater Boston area are encouraged to apply if they can commit to the Providence travel schedule. Compensation & Location
Salary: $130,000 – $170,000 per year (Estimated)
