Position Overview: Senior PI Historian Developer
Adventa Tech is seeking a highly specialized Senior PI Historian Developer to lead the design, development, and optimization of PI Historian-based solutions. This role is critical for our clients in the Transmission & Distribution (T&D) sector, where real-time data management and analytics are essential for operational efficiency and grid reliability. As a subject-matter expert, you will be responsible for the entire lifecycle of PI ecosystem enhancements, from initial requirement gathering to the deployment of custom integrations and advanced analytical models. This is a remote position requiring strict adherence to PST working hours to align with our primary utility stakeholders.
Core Responsibilities
- Architect and develop scalable PI Historian solutions that translate complex business and operational requirements into supportable technical designs.
- Lead the creation and maintenance of PI Asset Framework (AF) models, including the implementation of complex templates, attributes, and analyses.
- Develop custom applications, services, and scripts using Python and C#/.NET to extend the native functionality of the PI System.
- Design and implement robust data ingestion pipelines using PI Interfaces and PI Connectors, ensuring high data integrity and minimal latency.
- Serve as the primary technical escalation point for troubleshooting highly complex issues related to real-time data flow and system performance.
- Perform root-cause analysis on system outages or performance bottlenecks across all PI components, including Data Archive, AF, and Vision.
- Collaborate with SCADA and DMS teams to ensure seamless interoperability between industrial control systems and the PI Historian.
- Document all development standards, architectural designs, and operational runbooks to ensure long-term system sustainability and knowledge transfer.
- Ensure all developed solutions comply with stringent cybersecurity and regulatory requirements specific to the utility industry.
Required Technical Expertise
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in IT or Engineering, specifically supporting real-time data platforms and analytics solutions.
- At least 5 years of hands-on experience with the AVEVA/OSIsoft PI System in a large-scale enterprise environment.
- Advanced proficiency in C# and the .NET framework for building custom PI-integrated applications.
- Strong scripting skills in Python for automation and data processing tasks.
- Deep understanding of industrial communication protocols, including DNP3, Modbus, and IEC 61850.
- Expertise in SQL querying and experience with data visualization platforms such as Power BI or Tableau.
- Familiarity with Transmission & Distribution grid operations and SCADA environments.
Communication and Leadership
This role requires exceptional communication skills (rated 10/10), as you will be acting as a true consultant to our business partners. You must be able to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and lead collaborative efforts across multiple IT and Engineering teams. The ability to work independently in a remote environment while maintaining high productivity and meeting project deadlines is essential. We are looking for a professional who not only understands the technology but also the business context of the utility industry.

Compensation & Location
Salary: $150,000 – $200,000 per year (Estimated)
