Role Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Project Manager and SAFe Release Train Engineer (RTE) to lead a critical IT delivery initiative within the Life Sciences sector. This dual-function role is centered on the implementation of an Experiment Manager and bioprocessing platform designed for biopharma development. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving end-to-end delivery while simultaneously serving as an Agile-at-scale leader for a multi-team program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Management: Oversee the full lifecycle of IT delivery, including vendor management, budget tracking, risk mitigation, and stakeholder communication. You will ensure that the bioprocessing platform meets all technical and business requirements within the specified timelines.
  • Release Train Engineering: Act as the RTE for the program, facilitating PI (Program Increment) planning sessions, conducting demos, and leading ‘Inspect & Adapt’ workshops. You will be responsible for optimizing the flow of value through the Agile Release Train (ART).
  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Work closely with product owners, engineering teams, data scientists, QA specialists, and security/compliance officers to ensure a cohesive delivery strategy.
  • Platform Implementation: Manage the integration of COTS (Commercial Off-The-Shelf) and SaaS platforms, ensuring they align with the complex needs of biopharma development and CMC (Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Controls) projects.
  • Agile & DevOps Advocacy: Drive the adoption of Agile and DevOps best practices across the program to improve delivery speed and quality.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 20 years of experience in Information Technology.
  • At least 10 years of experience in senior program leadership or project management roles.
  • Mandatory experience within the Pharma or Life Sciences industry, specifically supporting CMC or bioprocessing initiatives.
  • Proven expertise in SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) with experience acting as a Release Train Engineer.
  • Strong background in managing large-scale, multi-team programs and complex vendor relationships.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence C-suite stakeholders and technical teams alike.

Work Environment

This position is based in Gaithersburg, MD, and requires a hybrid work schedule with 3 days onsite per week. Candidates must be local to the area or willing to relocate immediately. The role operates on US East Coast hours and involves high-visibility leadership within a fast-paced biopharmaceutical environment.


Special Requirements

Pharma/Life Science experience mandatory; Local candidates only; 3 days onsite; 20+ years IT experience required.


Compensation & Location

Salary: $185,000 – $245,000 per year (Estimated)

Location: Gaithersburg, MD
