Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Systems & Security Engineer for a Contract-to-Hire (36 months) role with strong potential for full-time conversion. This is a hybrid position located in Central Massachusetts, with candidates within a 1-2 hour drive of Anthol, MA preferred. The role involves a hands-on dual responsibility of systems administration and security operations for a global manufacturing organization. You will be instrumental in managing day-to-day security operations, Microsoft 365 administration, identity management, vulnerability management, and collaborating with IT leadership and a virtual CISO to enhance the company’s security posture.

Key Responsibilities:

Security Operations (Day-to-Day)

  • Serve as the primary security operations resource across global sites and divisions.
  • Execute patch management, asset management, vulnerability scanning, and recurring security control reviews.
  • Manage and monitor security tooling (firewalls, IDS/IPS, endpoint protection, SIEM) and coordinate with managed security partners.
  • Deploy and manage security tool agents across the environment.
  • Conduct access control reviews and enforce least-privilege principles.
  • Administer security awareness and training programs for end users.
  • Coordinate security integration across IT and business functions.

Systems Administration & M365 Engineering

  • Administer and optimize Microsoft M365 services: Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Intune.
  • Manage identity infrastructure: Active Directory, Azure AD / Entra ID, Conditional Access, PIM, MFA and SSO.
  • Plan and lead migration projects to Microsoft 365 (including tenant-to-tenant migrations).
  • Develop and maintain PowerShell automation scripts for administration, provisioning, and reporting.
  • Troubleshoot complex M365 issues and provide root-cause analysis.
  • Create and maintain documentation for system configurations, change procedures, and runbooks.
  • Mentor junior IT staff on M365 administration and security best practices.

Security Governance & Compliance

  • Under CIO and vCISO direction, establish, track, and report on security KPIs and metrics.
  • Participate in security governance activities and leadership briefings.
  • Maintain documentation for security policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Support compliance requirements and applicable data protection frameworks.

Incident Response & Recovery

  • Lead containment, eradication, and recovery during security incidents.
  • Conduct post-incident analysis and implement preventive measures.
  • Maintain and exercise an incident response plan and conduct regular risk and vulnerability assessments.

Threat Intelligence

  • Monitor threat intelligence feeds and translate intelligence into actionable recommendations.
  • Collaborate with external partners (cybersecurity firms, ISACs, government agencies) to share intelligence and best practices.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in systems engineering and/or information security operations with hands-on responsibilities.
  • Strong experience administering Microsoft M365 platform (Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Intune).
  • Experience migrating to M365 and tenant-to-tenant migrations.
  • Deep knowledge of identity and access management: Active Directory, Entra ID/Azure AD, Conditional Access, PIM, MFA, SSO.
  • Proficiency with PowerShell scripting for automation and reporting.
  • Experience with patch management, vulnerability management, SIEM monitoring, and endpoint protection.
  • Networking fundamentals: DNS, DHCP, SSL/TLS, firewall concepts.
  • Strong communication skills; able to convey technical risk to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience in manufacturing, industrial, or multi-site enterprise environments is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Defender suite is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Security, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Relevant certifications valued: MS-500, SC-300, AZ-500, CISSP, CISM, Security+, CEH.

Special Requirements

Need manufacturer EXP. Must live within 1 to 2 hours from the company location. Hybrid position. Start date ASAP. Candidates within 13 hour drive preferred.


Compensation & Location

Salary: $60 – $80 per year (Estimated)

Location: Anthol, MA
