Role Overview

We are looking for a Senior SFG Architect to provide technical leadership and strategic direction for solutions built on the IBM Sterling File Gateway (SFG) platform. This is a 100% remote role (EST hours) focused on high-level architecture, disaster recovery planning, and B2B integration strategy. The successful candidate will act as a subject matter expert, guiding enterprise-level initiatives without the requirement for hands-on deployment or operational support. This position is ideal for a consultant who excels at stakeholder alignment and complex system design.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architectural Leadership: Leading discussions with business and technical stakeholders to define long-term objectives for SFG-related initiatives, including modernization and scalability.
  • Solution Design: Designing end-to-end SFG architectures, including secure file transfer flows, complex integration patterns, and robust security models.
  • Disaster Recovery Planning: Developing and maintaining DR strategies for SFG environments, defining RTO/RPO requirements, and overseeing failover/failback testing.
  • Security & Compliance: Ensuring all architectural designs align with enterprise security standards, including encryption, certificate management, and MFA enablement.
  • Modernization: Planning platform upgrades and environment standardization, including the transition to containerized deployments and CI/CD pipeline integration.
  • Documentation: Creating high-level and detailed architecture artifacts, including solution diagrams, design documents, and operational runbooks.
  • Advisory Services: Evaluating existing SFG environments to propose improvements aligned with best practices and enterprise architecture principles.

Technical Requirements

Candidates must have extensive experience with IBM Sterling File Gateway (SFG) and IBM Sterling B2B Integrator. Deep knowledge of Managed File Transfer (MFT) protocols such as SFTP, AS2, and HTTPS is required. Experience with IBM Sterling Secure Proxy (SSP) and identity management (IAM) integration is highly desirable. You should be familiar with containerization technologies (Docker/Kubernetes) and modern infrastructure practices. A strong understanding of high availability, clustering, and replication architectures is essential for the Disaster Recovery components of this role.

Professional Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have over 8 years of experience in enterprise middleware or MFT platforms, with at least 5 years specifically focused on IBM Sterling SFG. Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills are required, along with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. This is a 6+ month contract with a 32-hour work week, requiring the consultant to provide their own laptop and work within EST business hours.

Special Requirements
