Overview of the SharePoint and Power BI Developer Role
We are seeking a highly experienced and dedicated SharePoint and Power BI Developer to join our dynamic team. This remote position offers the flexibility of working from home, with an occasional requirement to travel to our client’s office in Waukegan, IL, approximately once per quarter. The ideal candidate will possess a robust background in both SharePoint Online and Power BI development, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of data modeling, ETL processes, and interactive dashboard creation. This role is critical for enhancing our client’s data analytics capabilities and optimizing their SharePoint environments.
Key Responsibilities and Technical Expertise
- SharePoint Development:
- Design, develop, and maintain solutions within SharePoint Online and on-premise versions (SharePoint 2013/2016).
- Utilize modern development tools and frameworks including Node JS, Typescript, PnP, Power, Visual Studio Code, Visual Studio 2017, GitHub, and Azure DevOps.
- Implement custom development using CSOM (Client-Side Object Model), SSOM (Server-Side Object Model), and SPFx (SharePoint Framework) Webparts & Extensions with Typescript and PnP.
- Integrate and automate workflows using PowerAutomate and PowerApps.
- Develop and manage Azure WebAPI and Azure WebJobs for extended functionality.
- Experience with Nintex and InfoPath forms is a valuable asset.
- Power BI Development:
- Collaborate with business users and analysts to gather and translate data requirements into technical specifications.
- Design and develop robust, scalable data models, connecting to diverse data sources such as SQL databases and Azure services.
- Perform extensive data transformation (ETL) using Power Query (M language) to clean, shape, and prepare raw data for analysis.
- Create compelling and interactive visualizations, reports, and dashboards using Power BI Desktop, and publish them to the Power BI Service.
- Write complex DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) formulas for calculated columns and measures to derive deep, actionable insights.
- Optimize report performance, query efficiency, and data load times to ensure a seamless user experience.
- Implement data governance best practices and establish row-level security (RLS) to manage access controls effectively.
- Support and Maintenance:
- Diagnose and resolve issues related to reports, data refreshes, and data connectivity promptly.
- Provide comprehensive technical assistance, training, and guidance to end-users on Power BI functionality.
- Monitor system health, schedule report refreshes, and manage Power BI gateways to ensure continuous operation.
- Maintain clear and thorough documentation for all reports, data models, and development processes.
- Manage and track issues using ticketing systems like Jira and ServiceNow.

- Ability to establish strong relationships with client stakeholders and coordinate effectively with the IBM delivery team to meet client IT requirements.
Technical Skills Summary
The successful candidate will have a strong command of SQL, Power Query, DAX, Data Modeling principles, and the full suite of Power BI tools. A deep understanding of SharePoint architecture and development best practices is also essential. This role demands a professional who can bridge the gap between business needs and technical solutions, delivering high-quality, performant, and secure data and collaboration platforms.
