Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and visionary Software Architect to design, build, and scale modern backend platforms using Node.js, TypeScript, and event-driven architectures. As we move into 2026, the demand for high-throughput, resilient systems has never been higher. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in building distributed systems that process large transaction volumes and operate under heavy traffic conditions. This role requires strong architectural thinking, hands-on technical leadership, and extensive experience designing distributed systems with Kafka, DynamoDB, and auto-scalable cloud infrastructure. You will be responsible for the technical roadmap of our core backend services, ensuring they meet the highest standards of performance and reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect and lead the design of scalable backend systems using Node.js microservices and TypeScript, focusing on modularity and maintainability.
- Design and implement complex event-driven architectures using Apache Kafka, ensuring efficient asynchronous processing patterns.
- Build and optimize systems capable of handling high traffic, large data volumes, and real-time transaction processing without latency degradation.
- Ensure backend services are optimized for non-blocking I/O, async processing, and high concurrency within the Node.js runtime.
- Define and enforce best practices for system reliability, fault tolerance, and performance tuning across the engineering organization.
- Lead architecture for auto-scaling, load balancing, and high availability environments to support global user bases.
- Drive the adoption of cloud-native design patterns and distributed system principles to future-proof our infrastructure.
- Establish comprehensive observability strategies including logging, monitoring, distributed tracing, and proactive alerting.
- Mentor senior and staff engineers on modern backend patterns, scalable system design, and architectural decision-making.
Technical Requirements
- 10+ years in software engineering with at least 3 years in dedicated architecture roles.
- Expert-level proficiency in Node.js backend development for production-grade, mission-critical systems.
- Strong proficiency in TypeScript is mandatory, with a focus on type safety and advanced design patterns.
- Deep understanding of asynchronous programming, non-blocking request handling, and event loop behavior.
- Hands-on experience designing event-driven systems with Apache Kafka, including topic design and partitioning strategies.
- Strong experience with DynamoDB, specifically large-scale data modeling and partition key optimization.
- Expertise in high availability and fault-tolerant architectures, including circuit breakers and idempotent processing.
- Extensive experience with AWS cloud environments, Docker containerization, and Kubernetes orchestration.
Leadership and Impact
In this role, you will define the architectural foundation for high-scale backend systems handling millions of events and large transaction volumes. Your decisions will directly impact the reliability, performance, and future scalability of the platform. You will work closely with product, platform, and DevOps teams to ensure a cohesive technical strategy. This is a high-impact position that requires a blend of deep technical knowledge and the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
