Position Summary
VBeyond Corporation is currently seeking experienced Software Engineers with a deep specialization in COBOL and Mainframe technologies for a long-term project based in Cincinnati, Ohio. This is a “Local Only” requirement, specifically targeting professionals who are already based in the Cincinnati metropolitan area or are willing to work locally with valid local identification. In 2026, the maintenance and modernization of legacy mainframe systems remain a cornerstone of enterprise stability, particularly in the finance, insurance, and retail sectors. This role offers the opportunity to work on mission-critical systems that handle high-volume transactions and complex data processing for a leading industry client.
Core Technical Stack
- Expert-level proficiency in COBOL programming, including modern COBOL standards.
- Extensive experience with Mainframe subsystems including TSO (Time Sharing Option) and CICS (Customer Information Control System).
- Hands-on experience with SAS for data analysis, reporting, and statistical processing.
- Strong knowledge of MQ (Message Queue) for asynchronous communication and middleware integration between distributed systems.
- Mastery of JCL (Job Control Language) for batch processing, job scheduling, and system management.
- Experience with DB2 or other mainframe-resident databases, including SQL performance tuning.
Primary Responsibilities
- Develop, test, and implement robust software solutions within the mainframe environment to support business-critical functions.
- Perform system integration and functional software design to ensure seamless data flow between legacy mainframe platforms and modern cloud-based applications.
- Lead complex conversion and integration projects, ensuring data integrity, security, and system reliability throughout the process.
- Conduct thorough quality assurance and testing, including unit, integration, and regression testing, to identify and resolve defects early in the development lifecycle.
- Document complex system architectures, program logic, and operational procedures to facilitate ongoing maintenance and knowledge transfer.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including architects, analysts, and QA, within a SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) environment.
- Participate in peer reviews and code walkthroughs to maintain high standards of code quality and adherence to organizational best practices.
- Provide production support and troubleshooting for batch and online mainframe applications.
Candidate Qualifications
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in mainframe software engineering and development.
- Demonstrated track record of successful integration projects involving legacy and modern systems.
- Familiarity with the SAFe Agile framework and the ability to work in a fast-paced, iterative environment.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Local residency in Cincinnati, Ohio is a mandatory requirement for this role; candidates must possess local IDs.

Salary: $120,000 – $165,000 per year (Estimated)
