Position Overview: Senior SQL Server DBA
Staffxpert LLC is seeking an experienced Microsoft SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) with a specialized focus on Cloud Migration to support enterprise-level database modernization initiatives. This high-visibility role involves leading the transition of mission-critical on-premises MSSQL environments to modern cloud platforms such as Azure and AWS. The successful candidate will ensure that our database infrastructure is optimized for high availability, security, and peak performance in a hybrid cloud architecture. This position is based in McLean, VA or Plano, TX and requires a local presence for a hybrid work schedule.
Core Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end migration of legacy on-premises SQL Server databases to Azure SQL Database, Managed Instance, or SQL on Virtual Machines.
- Design and implement robust High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions using SQL Server Always On Availability Groups and Failover Clustering.
- Perform comprehensive database performance tuning, including query optimization, index management, and execution plan analysis.
- Automate routine DBA tasks and deployment processes using PowerShell, T-SQL, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform.
- Manage database security protocols, including Transparent Data Encryption (TDE), fine-grained access control, and regular security auditing.
- Collaborate with DevOps and Infrastructure teams to integrate database deployments into CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps or Jenkins.
- Execute database upgrades, patching, and version migrations (SQL 2016 through SQL 2022) with minimal downtime.
- Develop and maintain sophisticated backup and recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and business continuity.
- Provide 24/7 production support and root cause analysis for complex database issues in a fast-paced enterprise environment.
Required Technical Skills
- Minimum of 7 years of hands-on experience as a dedicated SQL Server DBA.
- Expert-level knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server versions 2016, 2019, and 2022.
- Proven experience with cloud migration projects, specifically moving workloads to Microsoft Azure or AWS.
- Strong proficiency in T-SQL scripting and performance troubleshooting.
- Experience with monitoring and diagnostic tools such as Redgate, SolarWinds, or SentryOne.
- Familiarity with networking and storage concepts as they relate to database performance in the cloud.
Preferred Qualifications
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or similar cloud certifications.
- Experience working within highly regulated industries such as Financial Services or Healthcare.
- Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles and tools.
- Strong documentation skills and the ability to create detailed technical runbooks.

Compensation & Location
Salary: $140,000 – $190,000 per year (Estimated)
