Role Overview
We are currently seeking a highly specialized Senior Front-End Developer for a high-impact, 6-month contract engagement supporting the prestigious ‘Google Refresh Project’ through our premier end client, Instrument. This is a 100% remote position that demands a sophisticated understanding of modern front-end architectures, specifically within the Wagtail CMS and Django ecosystem. As a senior contributor, you will be responsible for driving the visual and functional evolution of high-traffic web properties, ensuring that the technical implementation aligns perfectly with cutting-edge design specifications. This role is ideal for a developer who thrives at the intersection of content management systems and elegant user interfaces, possessing the technical rigor to manage complex data structures while maintaining a focus on performance and accessibility.
Key Responsibilities and Technical Scope
- Architect and modify StreamField components and StructBlocks within the Wagtail CMS to support dynamic content requirements.
- Translate complex data models into clean, semantic, and highly maintainable Django templates, ensuring a seamless flow from backend to frontend.
- Act as the primary bridge between Python-based backend logic and the visual presentation layer, optimizing the integration of dynamic data.
- Refine and adjust template logic and block definitions to accommodate new design requirements while preserving the integrity of existing content flows.
- Take full ownership of the styling architecture using expert-level CSS and SCSS, ensuring modularity and scalability across the project.
- Navigate complex Django environments to manage assets and utilize modern build tools for efficient style compilation and deployment.
- Identify and resolve intricate responsive layout issues, ensuring a consistent and high-quality experience across all device types and browsers.
- Implement pixel-perfect UI updates based on detailed design mockups provided by the creative team at Instrument.
- Optimize front-end performance by minimizing asset sizes, improving rendering paths, and adhering to web vitals best practices.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams in an agile environment, participating in code reviews and architectural discussions.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of 5-7 years of professional front-end development experience with a focus on CMS-driven sites.
- Proven expertise in Wagtail CMS, specifically with advanced features like StreamFields and custom StructBlocks.
- Deep proficiency in Django templating and a solid understanding of how Python backends interact with the frontend.
- Mastery of CSS3, SCSS, and modern responsive design techniques, including Flexbox and Grid.
- Experience with modern front-end build pipelines (e.g., Webpack, Gulp, or Vite) within a Django context.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to debug complex layout and performance issues.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a fully remote, distributed team environment.
- A portfolio or GitHub profile demonstrating high-quality, pixel-perfect web implementations.

Compensation & Location
Salary: $114,400 – $145,000 per year
