Job Description: Sr. Java Developer – State of Texas

We are seeking a Senior Java Developer with strong analytical skills to support application analysis, code understanding, and modernization initiatives for the State of Texas. The candidate will work closely with Business Analysts to interpret existing systems and translate technical functionality into business requirements. This is a remote position within the state of Texas, and only local Texas profiles will be considered. Experience with Public Sector (State/Federal/Local Govt.) clients and the Oil & Gas industry is preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze existing Java applications to understand business logic and workflows.
  • Review code (Spring, Java EE, Struts, EJB) to identify business rules, data flow, and integrations.
  • Collaborate with Business Analysts to translate technical details into functional requirements.
  • Prepare documentation, including functional specs, process flows, data mappings, and design docs.
  • Support application modernization and identify reusable components.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and clarify system behavior during testing.
  • Work with architects, developers, and stakeholders for system understanding.
  • Handle legacy to modern application bridging.

Required Skills:

  • Strong experience in Core Java, Spring/Spring Boot, REST APIs.
  • Experience with Struts, EJB, Java EE design patterns.
  • Knowledge of SQL databases (Oracle/SQL Server).
  • Experience with Git (version control systems).
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working in Agile/fast-paced environments.
  • Unix/Linux and shell scripting (Bourne/Korn).

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with Azure DevOps.
  • Knowledge of GoAnywhere (secure file transfer).
  • Experience in application modernization/migration projects.
  • Exposure to SOA, Microservices, RESTful services.
  • Experience in Oil & Gas / Government / Healthcare domains.
  • Knowledge of PDF processing (iText).

Location:

Remote within Texas state. Candidates must be LOCAL TO TEXAS.

This role requires a candidate with 14+ years of experience. The interview process may involve team meetings, and an in-person interview might be required based on client needs.

Compensation & Location

Salary: $100,000 – $140,000 per year (Estimated)

Location: Austin, TX
