Job Description: Sr Mainframe Z/OS Storage Consultant

We are looking for an experienced Sr Mainframe Z/OS Storage Consultant for a remote contract position. The role requires 10+ years of z/OS storage experience and expertise in DFSMS, DASD, catalog architecture, HSM, and tape/VTS.

Responsibilities:

  • Define and maintain z/OS storage architecture, standards, and best practices.
  • Act as escalation point for complex DFSMS, DASD, catalog, HSM, and tape/VTS issues; perform root cause analysis and preventive planning.
  • Design and review DFSMS policies (ACS routines, SMS classes, data lifecycle) with focus on performance, capacity, and risk.
  • Provide oversight for storage changes, upgrades, and migrations, ensuring testing, backout plans, and documentation.
  • Advise on DFSMSdss, FlashCopy, RMM, IBM utilities, and approved ISV tools.
  • Collaborate with systems, operations, and SAN/storage teams on integration and replication.
  • Support disaster recovery solutions (Copy Services, GDPS where applicable).
  • Develop standards/runbooks and mentor staff.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of z/OS storage experience.
  • Expert knowledge of DFSMS, DASD, catalog architecture, HSM, and tape/VTS.
  • Strong background in storage architecture, performance, capacity planning, and change governance.
  • Hands-on experience with SMP/E, JCL, and production validation.

Nice to Have:

  • GDPS, Copy Services Manager, Parallel Sysplex experience.
  • Strong communication skills.

Additional Information:

This is a remote contract position with a duration of 12+ months. The rate is $60/hr C2C. Candidates must be US Citizens only. An active and old LinkedIn profile is required.

Salary: $60 – $70 per year
