Role Overview
We are looking for a Senior SAP S/4HANA Workflow & ABAP Consultant to join our team in Houston, TX. This is a hands-on Subject Matter Expert (SME) role focused on stabilizing and optimizing SAP workflow architectures within a RISE environment. The ideal candidate will be able to jump in immediately, clear existing backlogs, and provide high-level production support and enhancements without a long ramp-up period. This position requires a deep understanding of both classic and flexible workflows, combined with strong ABAP debugging skills and a clean-core mindset. You will be responsible for ensuring that the Supplier Invoice Workflow is efficient, accurate, and scalable for future business needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess current Supplier Invoice Workflow architecture to identify performance bottlenecks and accuracy issues.
- Identify performance bottlenecks and accuracy issues within the existing SAP environment.
- Recommend modern alternatives, such as Flexible Workflow simplification, BRF+ optimization, or partial redesign without heavy custom ABAP.
- Perform hands-on troubleshooting of workflow failures, stuck items, and misrouted approvals.
- Manage production support and enhancements for Supplier Invoice, MM, and FI approval scenarios.
- Utilize strong ABAP debugging skills to trace workflow logic, BAdIs, user exits, and BRF+ rules.
- Fix workflow-related enhancements while adhering to clean-core principles to ensure future upgradeability.
- Manage Extended Workflow Notifications and integration with MS Exchange / Outlook.
- Optimize email triggers, approval links, and overall user-experience issues related to notifications.
- Explain technical issues and root causes to stakeholders, moving beyond simple fixes to architectural improvements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration between SAP modules and external systems.
- Maintain high standards of documentation for all workflow changes and ABAP enhancements.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior team members on SAP best practices and workflow optimization.
- Ensure that all solutions are compatible with the SAP S/4HANA RISE environment and follow SAP’s best practice guidelines.
Required Qualifications
- 15+ years of total experience in IT applications.
- 5+ years of specific experience with SAP, with a strong preference for S/4HANA.
- Deep expertise in SAP Workflow, including both Classic Workflow and Flexible Workflow in S/4HANA.
- Direct experience working in SAP S/4HANA RISE environments, which is critical for this role.
- Strong ABAP debugging skills with a focus on tracing complex logic and identifying root causes in existing code.
- Prior experience in production support and enhancement roles, specifically managing and clearing backlogs.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical “why” to non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience specifically in Supplier Invoice, Materials Management (MM), and Financial (FI) approval scenarios.
- Knowledge of BRF+ rules and their application within SAP workflows.
- Familiarity with MS Exchange and Outlook integration for workflow notifications and approval links.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with partial redesigns of custom ABAP to move toward standard SAP functionality.
- Understanding of clean-core principles and their application in S/4HANA environments.
- Ability to work onsite in Houston, TX, and collaborate effectively with local teams.
- Certifications in SAP S/4HANA, ABAP development, or SAP Workflow are highly desirable.

Compensation & Location
Salary: $160,000 – $210,000 per year (Estimated)
