Role Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Sr SAP S/4HANA Workflow & ABAP Consultant to join a critical production support and enhancement project for our client, LSPI, in Houston, TX. This role requires a Subject Matter Expert (SME) with over 15 years of experience who can navigate the complexities of SAP RISE environments. The primary focus is on stabilizing the Supplier Invoice Workflow architecture and clearing a significant backlog of technical debt while adhering to clean-core principles. This is an onsite position requiring a consultant with a debug-first mindset and exceptional communication skills to explain complex technical failures to business stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform deep-dive assessments of existing SAP Workflow architectures to identify performance bottlenecks and accuracy issues within the S/4HANA environment.
- Implement and optimize Flexible Workflow, BRF+ rules, and classic workflow scenarios to streamline MM and FI approval processes.
- Utilize advanced ABAP debugging skills to trace complex logic failures, BAdIs, and user exits without compromising the integrity of the RISE platform.
- Design and configure Extended Workflow Notifications and integrate them with MS Exchange/Outlook to improve user experience and approval cycle times.
- Act as a technical lead, explaining the root causes of system failures to stakeholders and recommending modern alternatives for long-term stability.
- Ensure all customizations and enhancements follow SAP’s latest best practices for cloud-based deployments and clean-core architecture.
- Troubleshoot misrouted approvals and stuck items in production, providing immediate fixes and long-term preventative measures.
- Collaborate with the finance and procurement teams to ensure workflow logic aligns with evolving business requirements.
Technical Requirements
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 15 years of total IT experience, with at least 5 years focused on SAP S/4HANA. Deep expertise in both Classic Workflow and Flexible Workflow is mandatory. You must have a proven track record of troubleshooting workflow failures in real-world scenarios, particularly within Supplier Invoice, MM, and FI modules. Experience specifically in S/4HANA RISE environments is a critical differentiator for this role. Beyond workflow, strong ABAP skills are required, specifically the ability to trace and fix workflow-related enhancements. Understanding of integration points with MS Exchange and Outlook for approval links is also essential.
Project Context
This project is centered on a high-stakes production support environment where the ability to jump in immediately and clear a backlog is vital. The consultant will be responsible for not only fixing what is broken but also for recommending partial redesigns that simplify the workflow landscape. By optimizing BRF+ and reducing heavy custom ABAP, you will help the client move toward a more sustainable and upgrade-friendly SAP environment. This role offers the chance to work on a long-term (12+ months) engagement with a major client in the Houston area, providing both technical challenge and professional stability.
Special Requirements
Visa constraints: USC, GC, GC EAD only. For GC/GC EAD, DOB must be after 1985. Onsite Houston, TX required. Client: LSPI.
Compensation & Location
Salary: $175,000 – $230,000 per year (Estimated)
